Technology Tidbits: Thoughts of a Cyber Hero: Top 100 Sites/Apps of 2013

Technology Tidbits: Thoughts of a Cyber Hero: Top 100 Sites/Apps of 2013 | Educational apps | Scoop.it

"Well, here it is my favorite and most popular post of the year, my Top 100 Sites/Apps of the year!!!  Continuing w/ the trend from last year, readers are going to find more and more apps on the list and less sites, as the flux in mobile learning and BYOD (bring your own devices) continues to rise.  Also, you'll notice that there are a lot of learning tools for Digital Storytelling & Math.  I believe the reason for this is because storytelling is a learning tool that can be used by a wide range of educators for any subject, and Math is a very popular subject w/ lots of diverse ways to go about teaching it.  W/ that I hope you enjoy this list and as always thanks again for reading!!!"

Ann Ewel's curator insight, December 4, 2013 11:16 AM

I am looking for new online tools to share with our teachers -- and this list looks like it has many that are easy to use -- and that enhance learning.  Like Geddit  -- where the students can give the teacher feedback on how well they understand -- sounds very cool.

CorrectiveFeedback enables you to automate a large part of the marking process and to also make the feedback you give more effective. It does this through using a number of marking ‘grids’ which you can customise to the needs of your students and the nature of your assignment.

Apps in Education: Editing Video on your iPad

Apps in Education: Editing Video on your iPad | Educational apps | Scoop.it

"Making movies on the iPad is one of those activities that I often see in schools. I love to watch how quickly even very young students can produce a professional looking movie. It is a great way for them to illustrate what they have learnt. Normally I would say that editing movies on the iPad is best done using iMovie but it is not exactly cheap, especially if you have a raft of other apps you want your students to have. Here are a couple of apps for editing movies that do not cost the earth. Many of these apps also contain features found on the more expensive apps."

In the 21st century where the technology revolves around our lives, we no longer need to stick to old fashioned teaching ways limited to papers and pens. There will always be new apps and new ways to do things. One of the biggest learning curves I had was to seek out the advice of others instead of trying everything myself. This list has a number of great suggestions but make sure you know what it is you want from the app/tool before you begin looking.
