Cognitive psychologists aren't so sure

Heather Severson's insight:

An interesting exploration of the connection between handwriting and academic success. Yes, it does seem that kids who hand write do better in school, overall.

It makes me wonder how many people like the "feel" of handwriting in their journal, as opposed to simply typing out a journal. I, myself, still like the feeling of writing out my emotional state. What about you?

Journaling Helps EAL Students Learn English

Journaling Helps EAL Students Learn English | Education Writing | Scoop.it
Expressing one’s thoughts in writing is perhaps the best way to learn English.

Via Sharilee Swaity
Heather Severson's insight:

A wonderful share from an EAL teacher who has consistently used journals for her students learning to speak English. She is even being asked to speak at an international conference about her experiences using journals.

Journals, she says, give students a place to write freely, from the heart, and that encourages writing overall. It also encourages and facilitates learning.
