There are two key elements here! The first is the engagement through peer review as the audience is real and critical. The second is the efficacy of repetition in the embedding within memory.

David Donat's curator insight, July 24, 2013 12:26 PM

I work in Chicago with a goal of helping volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs connect workplace volunteers with inner city youth. In each of these programs I see the potential for volunteers to teach youth to build networks of adults and ideas that will help them through school and in adult life. Tools like this would be part of what youth would need to learn to use.

New Media Literacies — Learning in a Participatory Culture

New Media Literacies — Learning in a Participatory Culture | Education & Technology News | Scoop.it

"The New Media Literacies constitute the core cultural competencies and social skills that young people need in our new media landscape. We call them “literacies,” but they change the focus of literacy from one of individual expression to one of community involvement. They build on the foundation of traditional literacy, research skills, technical skills, and critical analysis skills taught in the classroom. If these New Media Literacies are learned – and they can be learned without computers in the classroom – they can form the building blocks for students’ participation in new media."

Is there no need for a common minimum? It looks great the idea of a personal "playlist" of education topics, but if education should not give you something in common with the people you leave with, how can we built a common thing a "res publicas". Which are the boundaries or restriction of a total customized education? Every one will have the same liberty? even little kids? Even poor people? Even people with disabilities who need help to learn?
