Clear App Demo

James Tang has created a library based on the tableviews within the clear app. While the library does not yet implement all the gestures available for tableviews it’s great to look at and see how James used gesture recognizers within the tableview and implement your own.

With the release of iOS 5, the UIAppearance protocol is used to access the appearance proxy for a class you would like to configure. Customization is done by sending messages to the target class appearance proxy. When changing the appearance of an object, all instances of the object can be updated or only specific instances within a container class.

A Fort Worth school soon will get two dozen iPads to help educate special needs children.
The Jane Justin School at the Child Study Center received a charitable foundation grant to buy the iPads. Families with autistic children say the technology has already made a difference.

It’s a Tuesday afternoon at Tower School in Marblehead, Mass., and Mrs. McCarthy’s third grade classroom is hushed in concentration. The object of such intense focus? The students are playing a Quiz Show–style game on tablet computers to test their knowledge of national parks, the subject of a recent classroom unit. What park is known to have the greatest population of black bears? One student deftly punches his answers onto the screen of his iPad while another throws up her arms with excitement when she sees that she has selected the correct answer (Shenandoah).

As iPad use continues to grow, assessing how we use them becomes an important topic of study. This includes what kinds of tasks we use the tablet for, and ergonomic issues related to using the device.

Boston University is launching a study this fall among children of military members in an effort to help improve their math skills and teach healthy computing. They are currently looking for additional iPads to help in their efforts.
