"In their attempts to establish a 1:1 program for the year 6 class, St Oliver Plunket has recently held a series of workshops in order to develop their students skills before they were officially given management of their very own devices.
The workshops were particularly centered around teaching students about some tips and tricks for managing their iPad, email etiquette, successful searching and copyright and creative commons. I personally was thrilled by the efforts these people from St Oliver are putting into making their 1:1 program a success and I hope other schools would do the same."
"After humming and hawing I decided that my third instructional design/learning themed infographic would be the Principles of Adult Learning. Now, I will be honest and say that while I knew a few principles (adults have experience, adults like control over their learning experiences, etc.) I was lacking in my overall knowledge in that area. Creating an infographic is a great cure to this. I need to research, read articles and gather the appropriate information. Then I have to boil it down to its most simple form and try to find visuals that represent what I am trying to communicate. Anyways, it’s a good learning process.

After much reading I have come to find out that there is no actual official consensus on what the principles of adult learning are. Many are generally agreed upon, but there is still much theoretical debate going on for each proposed principle.

An interesting and thoughtful video that explores the link between learning and renewal/growth - which Giles describes as "an innate feature of human experience ... about thriving not just surviving." Giles uses the word 'natality' to discuss the question of learning in a social context, observing that humans experience lifelong 'relational embodiment' in birth and new growth throughout their lives in a cyclical sense. He says that 'the implications of this are quite far-reaching' in terms of how we perceive learning - he perceives the process as spiral ongoing 'sense of belonging' which is 'not a one-off in early infancy' but carries on across the whole of the lifespan.
