10 Ways College Students Use Technology | Edudemic (Infographic)

10 Ways College Students Use Technology | Edudemic (Infographic) | Education & IT | Scoop.it

Did you know that a new study from NortonLive shows "that 1/3 of college students find technology issues to be among their top three stressors (even more so than financial issues or studying for finals)."

This infographic provides additional findings such as:

* the average amount spent on technology was $760

* a laptop/desktop computer malfunction would be a "complete disaster" according to 81%

For more information check out the infographic.

JeanR's curator insight, November 17, 4:33 PM

Technology is very important to almost everything I do. My college applications are done via technology, my job is done via technology, and most of my entertainment is through technology. If I was to have a groundbreaking issue with my computer I would be unable to do my job, unable to work on my college applications, and have a major source of entertainment cut off. It would be very stressful to have technology problems especially if it was during a dire time such as having a project due or my manager needs something done, and it could certainly cost more than 760$ which is a huge amount of money out of my pocket. Getting ready for college would mean having to prepare several stops and precautions for technology failures and problems.

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison | Education & IT | Scoop.it

A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations.

Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools:

1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it.

2. Client-based: Download and install software on a computing device to record and save.

Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot

Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot | Education & IT | Scoop.it

Passing out iPads to students on the first day of school was like celebrating Christmas (or in this case Hanukkah)  with thirty antsy kids sitting around the tree,  attempting to hide their impatience.  Once the iPads had been handed out, students were instantly excited, engaged and enchanted with the new learning device in their hands. At first, everyone was confused about where to find work, where to save and store their products – and which app to use for what purpose. As with every pilot, these issues worked themselves out and soon classes were running pretty smoothly. Once they all learned what a “hard reset” was we were on our way. After an exciting year chalked full of learning lessons and changes in our learning landscape here are my takeaways:'
