10 Things I wish I Knew My First Year Of Teaching - TeachThought

10 Things I wish I Knew My First Year Of Teaching - TeachThought | Education & Homeschooling | Scoop.it

"My first year of teaching was a blur.

At the time, it didn’t feel like a blur. It felt a joyous, adrenaline-fueled rush or lessons, meetings, and new relationships.

But in hindsight, it was definitely a blur. And now, years later, I can see a few simple tweaks would’ve gone a long way."

BrainPOP Jr. - K-3 Educational Movies, Quizzes, Lessons, and More! | Education & Homeschooling | Scoop.it
Provides educational movies for K-3 students. Homework Help, leveled quizzes, games and activities for kids. Exceptional resource for teachers and homeschools.
Children's Hope and Voice's insight:

This is my most favorite homeschool resource, by far!!!!

There is a FREE weekly subject available to non-subscribers. I used this resource so much that we purchased the subscription. We were able to get all three: BrainPop, BrainPopJr, and they threw in BrainPop ESL for one monthly rate. I mean really affordable! And, we're on an extremely tight budget.

This resource saves me so much time researching the Internet, library, etc. for each and every subject/topic imaginable. If your kiddo needs to learn something, BrainPop or BrainPopJr probably has it.

My daughter is ADD so the video and interaction with the attached game, comic, joke section, printables, etc. is the perfect thing to launch any topic I'm covering. I use this just about every single day. No kidding. I don't know what I would do without it.

If I could only purchase one homeschooling resource, this would be it and I'd go to the library for the rest. And, no I'm not getting paid nor am I getting any type of monetary gain from my referral to BrainPop or BrainPopJr. I'm a paid subscriber and very satisfied with the service. :)

How Good Teachers Carefully Decenter Themselves - Grant Wiggins - TeachThought

How Good Teachers Carefully Decenter Themselves - Grant Wiggins - TeachThought | Education & Homeschooling | Scoop.it

"As teachers we understandably believe that it is the ‘teaching’ that causes learning.

But this is too egocentric a formulation. As I said in my previous post, the learner’s attempts to learn causes all learning. The teaching is a stimulus; the attempted learning (or lack of it) is the response. No matter what the teacher says or does, the learner has to engage with and process the ‘teaching’ if learning is to happen."

Why Playing Outdoors Makes Children Smarter

Why Playing Outdoors Makes Children Smarter | Education & Homeschooling | Scoop.it

Author and clinical psychologist Kay Redfield Jamison writes, “Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.” It is through unstructured, open-ended creative play that children learn the ways of the world. While playing outside, children explore with all their senses, they witness new life, they create imaginary worlds and they negotiate with each other to create a playful environment. - See more at: http://www.portlandfamily.com/posts/20-reasons-why-playing-outdoors-makes-children-smarter/#sthash.4QqJoNOc.dpuf
