This is a podcast interview with Diane Ravitch who is a historian of education and was also an assistant Secretary of education under the  Bush administration. Ravitch believes that Charter schools are killing the American public schools. Says in her research that over all there are no real difference between public and charter school when looking at student performance. She believes  crooks are being given a chance to squander tax dollars and give huge salaries to under qualified and over worked teachers and giving American teaching job to people coming from other countries . What schools need now, Ravitch says, is a return to a curriculum that includes American history, civics, art, and music rather than the current obsession with skills testing

"Education chart." Chart. Northern Virginia Mag. 25 Mar. 2012 <http://www.northernvirginiamag.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/0410education_chart2.jpg>.

This image compares charter and public schools in a nice diagram. It shows that both have public excess meaning any child is allowed. They are both run with public money, and they must both adhere to t major laws and regulation on education(such as standardized testing) Unlike a public school a charter school can be shut down if it is not performing and is seen as experimental. Why not follow the structure ofalready high preforming public schools.
