Waukesha - Last year, Kim Crosby spent about 80% of her class time teaching math concepts at Waukesha STEM Academy. For the other 20%, she helped students individually.

"Why is memorization and fact-regurgitation so heavily valued when school leaders and employers say they want greater problem-solving and critical thinking skills from graduates?"

"What is clear, at least to Miron, is that research suggests well-executed project-based learning builds higher-level thinking skills in students, and that an engaging teacher - technology or no technology - is essential."

Go project-based learning and technology in the classroom!

Reporter Sarah D. Sparks spent the last five years writing about federal and state education regulations. Now covering education research, she can most often be found with a double-shot mocha in one hand and the latest academic journal in the other.

"There were twice as many boys as girls nationally performing at the highest level in science (2 percent versus 1 percent, respectively)."

"Rather, they believe the cognitive clash of two gender stereotypes—images of a successful feminine woman and a successful scientist—can convince girls who already feel disconnected from science that they will never measure up to "counter-stereotypic success."

Making a mental note to not put up images of girly scientists in my class, make sure they're just normal women actively involved in science!

Bill Nye, the Magic School Bus and an Orion spacecraft come together at the USA Science & Engineering Festival this weekend.

"More than 3,000 hands-on activities and about 150 performances and demonstrations will be offered throughout the weekend, including several geared toward getting younger girls interested in science and math."
Definitely would be cool for my future students!  And me!
