Carlos Fosca's curator insight, December 20, 2015 12:55 PM

Why we all need time to tinker with tech

Why we all need time to tinker with tech | Education Today and Tomorrow | Scoop.it
To Tinker in the modern context is a process of trying something to figure out what works or doesn’t to find your way to the best solution, often going through many iterations, or changes, along the way. Tinkering is more a philosophy than a single practice and thus can be applied to many forms of learning for all learners.

10 Ways Teacher Planning Should Adjust To The Google Generation

Sarah McElrath's curator insight, February 9, 9:24 AM

"The age of knowing is slowing giving way to an age of data navigation, and what students need help with should be adjusted accordingly."

Although critical thinking has always been a goal of education, I believe now that the need to memorize facts has diminished (since information is at one's fingertips), those higher level thinking skills have become THE goal of education. Or at least they should be.

I believe one of the barriers to this kind of teaching and learning is that it is much more non-linear. It's messy and it takes longer -- all of which makes it harder to test and more difficult to organize into periods in the school day.

Great article that should get people thinking and discussing.
