Education Secretary: Want To Save On Prisons? Spend More On Schools. | Education | Scoop.it
The battle continues: How to shut down the School to Prison Pipeline.
Terri Goldson's insight:
The School to Prison Pipeline has been discussed for decades resulting in an increase of the prison population, privatization and building of more prisons. Unfortunately, a high percentage of children of color are swept into the pipeline with little to no resources to escape it, fight it or avoid it. We all know that Knowledge is Power and that education is the key to opportunity and success. We also know that if more children are exposed to a quality education and if more postsecondary educational opportunities were available, there would be a dramatic decrease in the prison population. We must invest on the front end of opportunity and hope for all children, instead of investing on the back end of lost dreams and despair in our prisons.
