Microsoft's next surprise is free Office for iPad, iPhone, and Android - The Verge

Microsoft's next surprise is free Office for iPad, iPhone, and Android - The Verge | Education | Scoop.it
- THE VergeMicrosoft's Office suite for iPad, iPhone, and Android is now free. In a surprise move, the software giant is shaking up its mobile Office strategy to keep consumers hooked to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Starting today, you'll no longer need an Office 365 subscription to edit documents or store them in the cloud. The move comes just days after Microsoft announced a strategic partnership with Dropbox to integrate the cloud storage service into Office across desktop, mobile, and the web. You can now download Office for iPad and store all your documents on Dropbox without paying Microsoft anything at all. Microsoft is also releasing a brand new iPhone app today, alongside a preview of Office for Android tablets, all with Dropbox integration.

It's true! And it works! Have tried it out - now there's no excuse not to work... To be honest, I do find Apple Pages to be a little more user-friendly on my iPad, and it also allows one to save one's documents as Word documents which is what I've being doing. So it's understandable why Microsoft has gone this route.

The 6-step guide to flipping your classroom - Daily Genius

The 6-step guide to flipping your classroom - Daily Genius | Education | Scoop.it
“It’s one of the most talked-about trends in education right now. Right behind the iPad and Common Core. Flipping your classroom is a trend that doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. That’s great, because it offers a lot of advantages for your classroom regardless of your students’ age or what subject matter you’re presenting in your classroom. If you’re new to the concept, flipping your classroom can feel a little bit overwhelming: How much should I switch around? What is best for the classroom vs at home? Why am I doing this again anyway?”

Managing iPad Videos in Schools- Visual Guide for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Managing iPad Videos in Schools- Visual Guide for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Education | Scoop.it
""Managing iPad YouTube in Schools" is a visual guide created by iPadWells from iPad4Schools. In this guide iPadWells walks teachers through the process they use in their school to create, share and teach using videos. YouTube is the principal video hosting used in this guide. That being said, it does not mean that the guide is not relevant for your teaching situation even if YuTube is banned in your school. You can still benefit from the tips and ideas provided by iPadWells on how to create enhanced videos using a wide variety of apps and share them with students who can access them at home."

9 Powerful (And FREE) Tools To Boost Summer Learning - Edudemic

9 Powerful (And FREE) Tools To Boost Summer Learning - Edudemic | Education | Scoop.it
"Rapidly approaching the dog days of summer (give or take a few days or weeks), I felt a need to share a power packed suitcase of tools that could be used to archive your summer highlights and memories. Many educators never really go on vacation. While they may appear to be leisurely sipping daiquiris on the beach, let’s be realistic… their brains are constantly running, reflecting, and mentally archiving away ideas for the next school year. To meet both the recreational and curricular needs of educators, I have concocted a special blend of FREE web tools and apps, highlighting both extracurricular as well as instructional integrations for each. Hopefully, these tools will exceed your souvenir quota and prove to be true digital treasures for the 2014-2015 school year as well.

A Must See Chart on SAMR Model and iPad Teaching ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

A Must See Chart on SAMR Model and iPad Teaching ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Education | Scoop.it
"Technology integration in instruction is a process that starts with setting out clearly defined objectives and ends with assessing learning outcomes against these objectives, and all along the way several tools and strategies are employed to attend to the overall performance of this process. Hence, the first question teachers need to ponder when thinking about using technology in class is not what kind of technology to use but what do they want to achieve behind using this technology? On a deeper level, they need to find answers to questions such as: Does this technology constitute a a good addition to the learning task ? Can the same learning task be performed without using technology? These and several other questions should come to the forefront when you start planning a technology-based learning activity. "

3 iPad Apps You May Not Know About for Demonstrating Learning - Learning in Hand

3 iPad Apps You May Not Know About for Demonstrating Learning - Learning in Hand | Education | Scoop.it
"While there are so many iPad apps that deliver content, I think the one of the best uses for technology in education is to make something with what you're learning. This might include producing a video, authoring a digital book, recording a puppet show, creating a college, narrating a slideshow, designing a comic book, or somehow making your own media and study aids. Yes, there are loads of drill and skill apps, digital books, and electronic response systems that can be very useful in classrooms. What's much more exciting to me are apps that empower students to be creative and expressive. "

I see huge value in the Thinglink tool (both App and Web), especially if you are a Google school and create or store digital archives online (as all you need is a URL to link too).

Our Year 4 to 6 teachers have created a Thinglink (placed on their clasblog) using their class photo and linked each one of the students blogs to it - simple, effective and visually capturing (Whanau love being able to view their blogs easily).
