"Animoby http://bit.ly/130ifrE ; is an excellent iPad app that I just found out about from Edshelf.  This is a great app to create stunning presentations by simply tapping on the screen and using one of the many tools such as: draw, paint, type, images, etc.  Also, a user can add a narration by recording their voice and then share their project via email."

TouchCast is an iPad app that I downloaded recently and have been exploring a bit over the last couple of weeks. It's not often an app come along which really shakes up and existing genre like video, but I think TouchCast does and in a way that can be very beneficial for learners.

My favorite quote here is' I provide the tools, its up to you what you do with them'. This video certainly had me rethinking PowerPoint. Clearly I need to learn to use it better. This was a very skillful presentation that was created only using PowerPoint.

Christopher Gurrie: In 2008, a colleague and I set out to make it our mission to rid this world of bad PowerPoint presentations. Remember the consequences: every time you make a bad PowerPoint presentation -- God (all of them) kills a kitten.

Even if we can only influence one student at a time -- hopefully we are doing our part to make presentation land just a little bit better for our fellow audience members. After all, we're only on this Earth for a short while -- it shouldn't be spent sitting through boring presentations where the presenter reads to us from slides laden with too many words and not enough practice...

Gabi Witthaus's curator insight, September 3, 2013 4:47 AM

Interesting idea - this could be useful in EFL teaching or just for people who are reading in English as a second language and need a bit of help.

I tried it on the Adobe Connect website to see if it would demystify some of the 'Marketese' though, and it didn't help much! A sentence such as 'Powering mission-critical web conferencing solutions, end-to-end, on virtually any device' is full of everyday words which are being used in an unnecessarily obscure way. Which is why I'm in favour of simply writing in plain English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plain_english).

On that subject, I recently discovered the absolutely wonderful Simple English Wikipedia (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page), which does just that.

TeachThought: How To Use An iPad To Add Voice Comments To Grading

TeachThought: How To Use An iPad To Add Voice Comments To Grading | Education | Scoop.it

"There are many pdf annotation apps available that allow this kind of text marking, but another killer feature that is somehow less celebrated: voice annotation.

The video below walks users through adding voice comments to pdf documents, starting right at the 2:00 mark. (The first two minutes cover the aforementioned text annotation.) Being able to add voice comments not only allows teachers to clarify important ideas, but could also be used by peers during the revision portion of the writing process.

As the paperless classroom becomes easier to realize, new tools will become more and more necessary to fill in the workflow gaps. Tools like these are a step in that direction."

TeachingwithiPad.org: Dropbox for Dummies: Why You Shouldn't Need Your USB Key Again

TeachingwithiPad.org: Dropbox for Dummies: Why You Shouldn't Need Your USB Key Again | Education | Scoop.it

"Dropbox is my number one productivity tool that I use every single day, both for teaching and personal purposes. If you are still toting around USB thumb-drives and moving files from your home and work computers that way, keep on reading. If not, feel free to check out some of my more advanced Dropbox articles listed below.

For the completely uninitiated, Dropbox is a cloud storage solution that is free for the everyday user. Dropbox will give you (a rather paltry) 2GB of space when you first sign up. You can increase your free space to up to 19GB by doing certain tasks (referrals will net you an extra 500MB each). If you find that you need extra space, you can opt to purchase additional storage of up to 500GB total."
