Infographics Are More Viral Then Presentations | Education | Scoop.it

The data’s in: Infographics have more virality than presentations and documents!

When we launched our new infographics player in July, it was because we had little  doubt the web was becoming more and more  visual — and  infographics were seemingly becoming the future of data-sharing. Being the data-driven organization that we are, we were interested in testing the popularity of this new content type.

Edutopia - Redefining the Writing Process with iPads

Edutopia - Redefining the Writing Process with iPads | Education | Scoop.it

"Take a moment to think about how you learned to write. What steps did you go through? What was your process?

Most of us learned the same core set of skills on paper: organize, draft, edit, revise, turn in. Our teachers then marked up what we had handwritten or typed, and returned our writing. From there, maybe it ended up tacked to a bulletin board, stuck on the refrigerator door, stuffed into a notebook, or tossed in the nearest trash can. Let's call this Writing 1.0."

Digital writing is an integral part of the writing process.  Another way to enjoy writing;)

harloff's curator insight, November 28, 2013 7:29 AM

Touch technologies can bring haptics back to the process of writing - thus still beeing digital. We have seen great advances in how we consume content, but less in how we create it.

Writing 2.0, so they say.

"Recently we took at look at the phases of inquiry-based learning through a framework, and even apps that were conducive to inquiry-based learning on the iPad.

During our research for the phases framework, we stumbled across the following breakdown of the inquiry process for learning on 21stcenturyhsie.weebly.com (who offer the references that appear below the graphic). Most helpfully, it offers 20 questions that can guide student research at any stage, including:"

We are so far removed from inquiry based classrooms that curiosity is but a shadow. Students wait to be fed the learning, which isn't true learning if it is fed. True learning comes from asking our own questions and setting out on a quest to unravel the riddle we have created.

How To Use Crowdsourcing In The Classroom - Edudemic

How To Use Crowdsourcing In The Classroom - Edudemic | Education | Scoop.it

"Crowdsourcing is an important information literacy skill.  Jeff Howe was the first to coin the term “crowdsourcing” in Wired Magazine in 2006. In his article, Howe describes how the internet has created a virtual crowd that allows us to share our passions and interests. This is important for students because the idea of crowdsourcing will allow them to utilize personal learning networks to gain a diversity of opinions, find outside experts and use the wisdom of a network or crowd to find more thorough answers and ask better questions."

Mary Perfitt-Nelson's curator insight, November 3, 2013 8:05 AM

Love the idea of crowdsourcing to help learners integrate new information into their existing ecology.

" He asks for them to be making connections with many different kinds of people, actively looking for and soliciting different points of view, and “finding the decision making sweet spot.” This sweet-spot comes from understanding who the experts are in the crowd and then using a “blend of personal and social information” to predict the best solution, create the best content and ask the best questions."

The 11-Minute Guide To All 8 Intelligences - Edudemic

The 11-Minute Guide To All 8 Intelligences - Edudemic | Education | Scoop.it

"The video consists of three sections. It starts introducing Gardner and the main problem of education versus different individual skills. Then it turns to present the eight intelligences as proposed by Howard Gardner, including a suggested learning strategy for each of these intelligences. Then in the third and final part it presents the concepts of personalization and pluralization, defined in respect of the multiple intelligences theory, as the guiding principle for a more including and developing educational strategy.

Regardless of what type of student, their age, level, or subject you’re teaching, awareness and understanding of the theory of multiple intelligences will help reach more and deeper in the teaching effort. Even for people not directly involved in education, this theory will help in getting a more nuanced and deeper picture of human skills and personalities."
