How to win citations and rise up the university rankings

How to win citations and rise up the university rankings | Education and Technology | Scoop.it
A large part of the academic world has either been congratulating itself on performing well in the latest Times Higher Education, or THE, World University Rankings, the data for which is provided by Thomson Reuters, or complaining that only large injections of public money will keep their universities from falling into the great pit of the unranked.

Some, however, have been baffled by some of the placings reported by THE this year. Federico Santa Maria Technical University in Chile is allegedly the fourth best university in Latin America, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa the best in Italy and Turkish universities are apparently the rising stars of the academic world.

Would You Create An Online Course? Here's Why Some Do (And Some Don't) | Education and Technology | Scoop.it

"There have been fairly substantial news stories of teachers making wads of cash selling their lesson plans to other teachers. With more and more teachers creating online course material, it is only natural that the online content is also moving into this sharing market. So are teachers just doing it to make money?"

According to the neuroscientist, Dr. John Medina “all human beings are excellent at remembering pictures”. It means we all retain and learn more when we SEE, rather than when we HEAR or READ. Quite a simple psychology, isn’t it?

Nearly 75 Percent of Faculty Incorporated Technology into their Teaching in the Past Year

Nearly 75 Percent of Faculty Incorporated Technology into their Teaching in the Past Year | Education and Technology | Scoop.it
When it comes to technology in the classroom, phrases like “faculty resistance” and the importance of getting “faculty buy-in” are tossed around with great frequency. But is that perception still valid? Are all instructors so set in their ways, skeptical of anything new, and fearful of deviating from what they’ve done that it’s nearly impossible to get them to try something new?
