Blogging for Reluctant Writers: Have students share their ideas using sound and video - The Digital Shift

Blogging for Reluctant Writers: Have students share their ideas using sound and video - The Digital Shift | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it

For students who love to write, composing blog entries is a natural—and effective—way to share their stories and ideas with a wider audience. Reluctant writers can have great ideas, too—they just don’t want to write them down. Fortunately, there’s more than one way to tell a story. Here, we’ll examine some excellent video and audio tools and how they can be used to help students craft dynamic content for classroom blogs.

Becky Roehrs's insight:

Richard Byrne discusses how students can use different media to share their thoughts: They can use Wideo.co to create videos and Soundcloud to create audio recordings; use Animoto or Narrable to create video slideshows; or use YouTube to record a quick answer and post it on the course blog or their own blog.

Online Courses Shouldn’t Use Remote Proctoring Tools. Here’s Why.

Online Courses Shouldn’t Use Remote Proctoring Tools. Here’s Why.  | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it

Thoughts about online proctoring have been taking up more of my time and energy than I’d like to admit. Rather than spending most of my time time helping people become better online teachers...

Becky Roehrs's insight:

Remote proctoring is either creepy or unrealistic (are teachers really going to look at those videos of their students talking to someone or fidgeting?)

Instead: change your assessments, don't rely heavily on tests, deal with the online world-do you really want to replicate everything from a face-to-face classroom? If you do, why? Is it worth the cost?

Students at all levels of school have to be engaged in their learning. The Grade 1 and Kindergarten teachers I interviewed described this as essential even with younger students. It had to make sense in their lives. Our pedagogic approach needs to reflect who we are as teachers and student needs at a particular time in their learning.

Whiteboard Desks: Low tech can be really fun!

Whiteboard Desks: Low tech can be really fun! | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it
Somehow by the luck of the draw, I ended up with the worst desks in our entire school when I joined this staff in 2013. Not only are the desk legs loose, and I’m constantly tightening them with a wrench, but also they are peeling and carved up. One even says “I hate this class” in big letters across the front. Let’s not even get into the gum artwork under the desks...

It finally came to a point where I was fed up. These desks have been through a lot, and they aren’t serving my kids’ needs. I can’t exactly go out and buy new desks. Solution: do some DIY and make whiteboard desks.
