7 ways to teach digital literacy skills - iPads in Education Ning

7 ways to teach digital literacy skills - iPads in Education Ning | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it

"Fostering digital literacy skills is one of the most difficult tasks for educators. Evaluating and analyzing online resources for accuracy is something that many adults struggle with – we’ve all been bamboozled before, haven’t we? But digital literacy is more than just determining if something is true or false – it’s intelligently and responsibly navigating online, it’s putting countless pieces together to form a puzzle, it’s determining what’s important and evaluating bias, etc – the list goes on. So, as an educator, how do we reinforce these crucial skills in our classrooms?"

This is so important for students to learn about, especially fake websites. One that wasn't mentioned that I like to use is the one about the California velcro crop being damaged. http://www.umbachconsulting.com/miscellany/velcro.html

Software for Adding Some Digital to Your Classroom | GradHacker

Software for Adding Some Digital to Your Classroom | GradHacker | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it

Let's say that you have decided to teach an online course or incorporate digital components into your classroom, your syllabus is solid, and you have written a comprehensive technology policy for your students. The next step in digitizing your undergraduate course is figuring out how to turn your amazing ideas into reality.

Becky Roehrs's insight:

I like Snagit vs Jing, since I like the screen shot markup better and you can create videos you can upload to YouTube (any length vs 5 min). You can't upload Jing videos to YouTube. I also like Screen-Cast-O-Matic to create quick videos (max of 15 min). With Screen-Cast-O-Matic, you can create screen casts or webcam videos or picture-in-picture screencasts.
