What Most Schools Don't Teach - Short Film

Learn about a new "superpower" that isn't being taught in 90% of US schools. Starring Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, will.i.am, Chris Bosh, Jack Dorsey, Tony H...

Becky Roehrs's insight:

I hated math and wasn't that great at science in high school. In college, I had to take algebra and statistics and liked both of them (I still didn't like biology). I tried coding once and didn't like it-tried it again with the right teacher, and loved it. I then became a computer programmer for Fortune 500 companies..you never know.

I wish when I was in high school I was more encouraged to learn math, science and computer science. And more girls are needed in this field.
Jenn Alevy's curator insight, May 14, 2013 11:04 PM

For some reason computer programing as a career seemed to take a back seat to other math/science/computer careers, esp.during the late 90s. Now it is time to get back to that, a million programers needed in the next 10 years is a great opportunity for many kids, I hope they do more to target more girls, not just boys.

Krysta Hammond's curator insight, May 15, 2013 10:29 AM

Great insights from some faces my students can really relate to. The video really captivated my student's attention and got them excited about learning to code and the possibilities it can lead them into. Thanks for sharing and I will pass on again!

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it
With online teaching, the only person to blame is yourself. That is what being objective means in this industry. An objective and reflective practitioner blames only himself or herself. If there is a problem, you need to consider ways to avoid it in the future by changing what you do and say, as well as how you act.

E-learning is an option to teach that is more common each day, but teachers believed that online learning is easy, in that way, teachers do not take into consideration some aspects to make their online teaching successful and comfortable for their students. As Karla Gutierrez said, there some tips to follow and do not lose our students such as knowing the background of our students, their needs, their levels, etc. You need to connect with your learners so write transmitting your feelings ,also the website should be nice to see and not complicated to read, avoid long paragraphs and many texts.
