Four stages of Self Directed Learning | English Teaching, Languages and Education Matters | Scoop.it

A couple of weeks ago I posted here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning two posts on self-directed learning : The Basics of Self-directed Learning, and 14 Technology-related Concepts every Teacher should Know about. Today I am adding another new resource on self directed learning I just came across in teachthought blog. This is basically a work realized by Barbara under the title Staged Self Directed Learning Model.

Climbing the Ladder of Educational Technology: How High Are You Climbing the Ladder of Educational Technology? | English Teaching, Languages and Education Matters | Scoop.it

"As the world continues to change, technology continues to change as well. Not only is it important for us as educators to teach our students how to use technology, but it is even more important for us to use it in a way that is seamlessly integrated so our students can learn the content, material, and skills that they need to learn.  This is Education Technology Integration. A useful and reflective article which makes the point using reference to SAMR, TPACK and Blooms that teachers need to learn how to use the technology at a deeper level and then how to integrate it into their lessons to engage students and enhance their learning.

Some interesting points and useful tips here for teachers regarding recycling language and revisiting texts. Thornbury makes the observation that often in  texts books each unit covers a different topic which means that new language is being introduced and language from previous units is not being repeated or reviewed. This is where we as teachers can introduce other resouces that help bind all the topics and also use five minute activites to recapitulate on language that has already been introduced in order to revive it.

5 Apps to Boost Collaborative Learning | English Teaching, Languages and Education Matters | Scoop.it
"No, what makes coming to school “worth it” is the collaborative learning experience—or in his words, the “opportunity to engage in a fantastic dialogue, trialogue, multilogue with a fantastically varied assortment of consciousnesses.” Indeed, the teacher facilitates and instructs and the books are the springboard from which conversations and teachable moments are launched. But Kahn believes classrooms become magical because of the relationships we nurture and the conversations we have. "
