3 Excellent Real Time Collaborative Whiteboard Tools for Teachers

3 Excellent Real Time Collaborative Whiteboard Tools for Teachers | Education and formation | Scoop.it

There are several reasons why you would be thinking to use collaborative white boards in your classroom . As a teacher, you can use these collaborative web tools to explain abstract hard to grasp concepts to your students through  diagrams, illustrative drawings, mindmaps...etc .

You can also use them to get students working collaboratively on a classroom project. The cool thing about these collaborative whiteboard tools is that they are web-based and therefore do not require any software installation and you can access them anywhere with internet connection. Here are three new tools I recommend for you today, check them out below and share with us what you think of them.

edX Makes Key Code Open Source | Quick Takes - Inside Higher Ed | Education and formation | Scoop.it

edX, the nonprofit massive open online course provider started by Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, made a part of its source code available to the open source programming community on Thursday.

Peter B. Sloep's curator insight, March 15, 2013 2:48 PM

edX intends to make the entire edX platform software code publicly available. Of course, edX is a not-for-profit enterprise, unlike Coursera and Udacity. So, this move is entirely inline with their underlying philosophy.

It is interesting to speculate about what this move might result in. Many universities may now host their own edX-like MOOC platform, rapidly multiplying the numbers of MOOC providers. Software developers might start building plug ins for edX, from which everybody stands to profit, including edX. Or the code might be forked and improved versions or altered versions might become available.

But whatever happens, it will hardly affect the MOOC hype as we now witness it. The hype seems to be predicated upon exclusivity and people wanting to have their share of it. We have had online courses for a decade or two, but only when ivy-league universities started to offer online content the hype took off. Who can refuse the offer of getting access to Stanford or Harvard content for free? This idea of exclusivity gets lost when any odd university starts offering MOOCs. They may offer Open Online Courses, but I doubt whether they will attract Massive attention. So, although open sourcing the edX code absolutely is the right thing to do for an academic institution, it will hardly affect MOOC mania. That has got to go throught the hype cycle on its own. Instant Project Visibility | LeanKit

Instant Project Visibility | LeanKit | Education and formation | Scoop.it
LeanKit is a simple, visual project and process management tool that allows organizations to easily visualize and manage the flow of their work, while collaborating with team members to consistently deliver results.

Online, Visual Project Boards

In LeanKit, you map your organization’s processes onto virtual whiteboards. On each board the process steps are represented as vertical and horizontal lanes. Cards represent work items, which team members update and move from across the board as they complete their share of the work.

Rather than having to ask for status reports, managers and customers can just look at the board. Board updates are visible in seconds around the globe and e-mail alerts and RSS feeds are available, so you and your team can take immediate action to resolve issues before they turn into serious problems.

TeachThought.com has a series of posts about self-directed learning by Terry Heick and the staff, well worth a read! “ “Learning is most effective when it’s personalised; it means something to the learner. Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, March 25, 2013 2:16 PM

It is interesting how few classroom teachers and administrators are aware of what self-directed learning is. SDL is an imperative for our children.

Avery's curator insight, March 25, 2013 11:56 PM

My Thoughts:

You can't teach someone how to learn. You can give them helpful tips and advice, but a single structure for education is not going to work for everyone. It's so much harder for people to learn their true potential, to reach their goals, when they're only shown a single path to them. You show them the path through the forest, but what if there's a rock face nearby that also leads up to where they want to go, and what if they happen to be a fantastic rock climber? It just makes more sense to show someone a map if you can, instead of directing them towards only one path.
