Why should the video watching previous to in-class? The core is quality video access and intensive in-class interaction. The lecture can't complete with these superb ones.

We are so far removed from inquiry based classrooms that curiosity is but a shadow. Students wait to be fed the learning, which isn't true learning if it is fed. True learning comes from asking our own questions and setting out on a quest to unravel the riddle we have created.

How do we teach students about social media when many believe they know they need to know because they use social media. This post provides 3 resources to help you out.

One of them is the interactive infographic on the History of Social Media. This infographic allows you to explore social media over three time periods, beginning with BC - 1800s. Did you know that the first postal service was in 550 BC?

The other two resources are Social Meowdia Explained and Social MEDogIA explained. Both provide a humorous look at social media that will engage students.

This blog post also provides some great ideas on how to incorporate these resources into future lesson.

The graphic (above) provides a nice visual to help understand the difference between project based learning and traditional units with a final project. Where are the differences? Traditional units have lectures, activities, quizzes, a review, an exam the project. With project bases learning you begin with an event plus a rubric and then move through a series of activites that help students reach benchmarks. Project based learning is authentic learning.

I have posted a number of resources from Ross Parker and this one requires a bit of time to understand…and yes, I think it is worth the time. The directions he provides in the upper right hand corner describe how a student should use this visual, as a tool to “steer & assess your own learning.”

Our students need to learn how to self-reflect and this tool has the potential to engage students and assist them in reflecting on their work regarding topics studied in technology.
