Think Different? Real diversity means getting past groupthink.

Think Different? Real diversity means getting past groupthink. | Educating & Enforcing Human Rights For We The People !! | Scoop.it
Don’t assume that meeting your diversity goals will help you avoid groupthink. People who look different may agree on pretty much everything.

Diversity was never supposed to be limited to skin color, gender, or ethnicity. It also promised to help generate a broader range of thoughts, opinions, and perspectives—and help overcome the curse of groupthink.

Any number of recent articles and books have urged executive teams and corporate boards to foster discussion and disagreement. Only from constructive conflict, we’ve been told, can out-of-the-box opinions and ideas emerge. In short, everyone—really, everyone—agrees that groupthink should be avoided like the plague and that new ideas are as good as gold.

But even though most big companies long ago established formal diversity goals and programs, initiatives aimed at creating fresh ideas, planting the seeds of greater innovation and fostering contrarian views that serve as a hedge against costly mistakes, have—with relatively few exceptions—failed.

Miserably.

Federal judge accuses state of ethical lapses in prison case - The Sacramento Bee

Federal judge accuses state of ethical lapses in prison case - The Sacramento Bee | Educating & Enforcing Human Rights For We The People !! | Scoop.it
In a high-stakes bid to wrest control of California's prison system from federal oversight, opposing lawyers for the state and for 33,000 inmates sparred Wednesday over whether the state violated legal ethics by interviewing mentally ill prisoners...
Doingtime2's insight:

The lawyers describe the sessions as being conducted in secret despite the legal requirement that they be present for all those tours and interviews.

"They interviewed our mentally ill clients without our knowledge about the case and then they used the evidence (to buttress their claims that conditions in the prisons have improved)," Don Specter, head of the Prison Law Office, told reporters after the hearing.

"They didn't really explain to the mentally ill clients what the purpose of the interviews were, so the inmates had no idea who they were speaking to, they had no idea for the reason."

Those interviews and the 50 expert declarations based on them that were filed with the court by the state now are at the heart of a heated dispute over whether California has made enough progress in improving access to mental health care at a constitutional level inside its prisons.

The inmate attorneys want the declarations thrown out, a move that would cripple the state's efforts in court to rid its self of the 23-year-old class action.

Doingtime2's insight:

Tell President Obama to create “Fair Chance” federal hiring!

Almost one in three adults in the United States has a record that will show up on a routine criminal background check. This creates a serious barrier to employment for millions of workers  long after they have paid their debt to society - especially in communities of color hardest hit by decades of over-criminalization.

In response to this national crisis, elected officials from across the political spectrum have embraced “fair chance” hiring reforms, and more than 100 cities, counties and states have passed Fair Chance hiring policies, protecting people with criminal records from discrimination.

Now it is time for our President and his administration to do the same by ensuring that both federal agencies and federal contractors are eliminating unnecessary barriers to the  employment of people with criminal records by banning the box on all federal job applications.

After all, how can a child, a man, or a woman seek opportunity, act on their potential, or be optimistic about their future if they are not also free and safe to strive for a better tomorrow?

Join people of moral conscience across America as we stand together, urging our President to issue an Executive Order banning the box on all federal job applications and applying fair hiring rules to all federal agencies and contractors.

Mexico arrests nine cartel suspects after gunfight

Mexico arrests nine cartel suspects after gunfight | Educating & Enforcing Human Rights For We The People !! | Scoop.it
Mexican marines have detained nine drug cartel suspects and seized an arsenal that included an anti-personnel mine and grenade launchers after gunfights that killed a police officer, authorities said Thursday. The troops also confiscated 24 assault rifles when they arrested the suspects late Wednesday in the northern state of Tamaulipas, a regional security task force said in a statement. The suspects are accused of participating in an assault by the Gulf cartel earlier on Wednesday in Altamira, near the Gulf of Mexico coast. Authorities say the gang opened fire in the town and blocked roads with burning vehicles in an attempt to rescue a leader who had just been arrested by authorities.

ON NOW...Cary Crittendon Falsely Charged/ Also: Doug Franks /Florida Guardianship Issues | Educating & Enforcing Human Rights For We The People !! | Scoop.it
Join us this evening as we expose the persecution and false charges levied against Cary Crittendon in California. Cary is currently held at Elmwood Correctional Facility charged with parole violations (non-specific). A May 4th hearing has been scheduled to allow the prosecutor time to fabricate other charges. The intent? To sentence Cary to a long period in prison for exposing the corruption of a sitting judge with a long history of corruption. Later in the show: Doug Franks will join us to talk about the recent victim's symposium that took place in Florida where families that had been targeted had an actual opportunity to speak at length about the abuses they had endured at the hands of predatory guardians and the infamous BAR Association, along with the corruption of the probate courts facilitated by hand-picked "judges". Should be an interesting show!

Watch: Explosive Footage from Inside Rikers Jail Shows Guard Beating Teen Accused of Backpack Theft

Watch: Explosive Footage from Inside Rikers Jail Shows Guard Beating Teen Accused of Backpack Theft | Educating & Enforcing Human Rights For We The People !! | Scoop.it
Explosive video obtained by The New Yorker depicts extreme violence inside New York City’s Rikers Island jail complex. Surveillance camera footage shows former teenage prisoner, Kalief Browder, being abused on two separate occasions. In one clip from 2012, the teenager is seen inside Rikers’ Central Punitive Segregation Unit, better known as the Bing. As a guard escorts Browder to the showers, Browder appears to speak, and then the guard suddenly violently hurls him to the floor although he’s already handcuffed. In a separate video clip from 2010, Browder is attacked by almost a dozen other teenage inmates after he punches a gang member who spat in his face. The other inmates pile onto Browder and pummel him until guards finally intervene. In an exclusive interview, we are the first to speak about the video with New Yorker staff writer Jennifer Gonnerman, who told Browder’s story in The New Yorker last year, describing how he spent nearly three years at Rikers after arriving there as a 16-year-old high school sophomore following his refusal to plead guilty to a crime he did not commit — stealing a backpack. "Footage [from inside Rikers] like this never, ever comes out," Gonnerman says. "This is what goes on when nobody is looking."

Second Chance Citizens

Second Chance Citizens | Educating & Enforcing Human Rights For We The People !! | Scoop.it
What if you committed an offense and served your time in prison - now what? Unfortunately, there are enormous challenges to re-entry. One of the hardest is finding a job. The vast majority of employers won’t even let a convicted felon apply. Parole requires a steady residence, but affordable housing requires background checks. There's a catch-22 at every turn. It’s no wonder that approximately two thirds of prisoners are projected to be rearrested within the first three years of release. This vicious cycle makes our community less safe, greatly affects children of incarcerated parents, and gives a life sentence to men and women whose sentence is already over. Second Chance Citizens illustrates that this doesn’t have to be the case. It’s a success story of a man who re-enters society and supports his family due to an employer giving him a chance. This story can be re-created. This can happen all over America. We want to share his story with you. Do you believe in second chances?

Barack Obama: Stop "Reverse-Sting" Operations

Barack Obama: Stop "Reverse-Sting" Operations | Educating & Enforcing Human Rights For We The People !! | Scoop.it
My son and thousands of other individuals across the country have fallen victim to a controversial policing tactic called the "Reverse-Sting/Stash-House" operation.  Easily the biggest violation of constitutional rights since "Stop & Frisk", reverse-sting/stash-house operations follow a script (drafted entirely by Federal Agents), that involve imaginary robberies of imaginary drugs. You're arrested and charged for drugs that never existed. No real drugs or stash-house, just real time!!! Defendants are receiving an average Mandatory Minimum sentence of 15 years in these type of cases.
At a cost to taxpayers of over $400K per defendant, society must determine if prosecuting made-up crime is worth it. We want the White House to abolish the use of these tactics, and release those that have fell victim to them. We need 100,000 signatures in order to get an official response from the Obama Administration and could use your help!!! Click here: https://www.change.org/petitions/president-barack-obama-stop-reverse-sting-operations? to sign the petition, and log onto www.ReverseSting.Org for the whole story & testimonies from those that have fell victim. Video: Armed National Guard Troops Patrol Residential Streets in California

Video: Armed National Guard Troops Patrol Residential Streets in California | Educating & Enforcing Human Rights For We The People !! | Scoop.it
Soldiers practice blocking traffic.
Doingtime2's insight:

“I just watched it again and recognized the low block wall and the elementary school! It was right there where my sister and her husband live! OMG how frightening!” one YouTube commenter responded, while others insisted the patrols were a routine occurrence.

However, another respondent insisted that the patrol was not normal.

“During the last few seconds I got a quick glimpse of my sister and brother-in-laws house on Fuschia. Ave,” wrote the commenter.”That motorcycle was parked almost in front of their house. They told me they saw this procession going on from their front yard. They have lived in that house for 30 or so yrs and this is the first time they have seen this type of thing in their neighborhood. Might be a common thing to do their training someplace else but not in that area.”

Concerns about the presence of troops on American streets have heightened since the announcement of Jade Helm, an upcoming nationwide military exercise which some fear is a dry run for martial law.

As we reported earlier this week, a National Guard drill based around dealing with civil unrest after a dirty bomb attack in Richmond, California featured role players acting as angry Americans yelling ‘right-wing’ rhetoric.

Footage captured by a local shows Guard troops pushing irate citizens away with batons before one of the protest group states, “I’m a sovereign citizen, I refuse to recognize you guys, I refuse to recognize you.”

Disturbing video out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida last month also showed military and law enforcement practicing the internment of citizens during martial-law style training.

Norfolk, Virginia| A 78-year old retired officer of the CIA, Normand Hodges, has made a series of astonishing confessions since he was admitted at the Sentara General Hospital on Monday. He claims he committed 37 assassinations for the American government between 1959 and 1972, including the actress and model, Marilyn Monroe. Mr. Hodges, who worked for the CIA for 41 years as an operative with top-level security clearances, claims he was often employed as a hitman by the organization, to assassinate individuals who could represent a threat to the security of the country.  Trained as both a sniper and a martial arts expert, Mr Hodges says he also has significant experience with more unconventional methods of inflicting harm upon others, like poisons and explosives. Mr. Hodges swears he remembers vividly, each of the assassinations he committed for the CIA.  He claims that all 37 of the murders he committed on the American soil, were ordered by his commanding officer, Major James
