25 Practices That Foster Lifelong Learning - InformED

25 Practices That Foster Lifelong Learning - InformED | EDUCACIÓN Y PEDAGOGÍA | Scoop.it

"Is your capacity for learning is fixed or fluid? Can you improve your intelligence and talents through hard work and practice, or are you stuck with the brains you’ve got? Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck says most of us have either a “fixed” or “growth” mindset when it comes to learning. Most of us can get through sixteen years of schooling regardless of which mindset we have, but when it comes to lifelong learning–learning for the sake of learning, without outside pressure–only a growth mindset will cut it."

Nice infographic of how the brain works in the context of learning. New technology, new understanding of brain science and psychology can and must lend themselves to the creation of a critical pedagogy which leaves no child left behind.

10 Things That Learners Pay Attention To (And How to Use Them in eLearning) | EDUCACIÓN Y PEDAGOGÍA | Scoop.it

"Even more than other types of education, eLearning must struggle to attract learners' attention: the Internet is full of distractions, and adult learners are both busier and more free to indulge in distractions. Helping students to pay attention is a primary concern of training professionals, so here are some optimal methods to win the attention game in eLearning."

What Are the 7 Mind Frames of Learning?

What Are the 7 Mind Frames of Learning? | EDUCACIÓN Y PEDAGOGÍA | Scoop.it

'Learning thrives on error'

"Among all the influences that can make a profound difference in student learning is how we think about our role!  So, start with looking inward and ask about the mind frames you have as an educator.

It is through these mind frames that we make decisions in the classroom and school, and it is argued that educators highly imbued with these mind frames are among the high impact educators."

Teachers need to recast themselves as learners alongside students. The days of the expert are behind us despite the advent of TED talks and other media where we still seem to think the sage on the stage is the way to impart knowledge, wisdom, and truth. There are moments for that, but learning is very relational, contingent, contextual, and personal.
