APRENDER MODALES DIGITALES

APRENDER MODALES DIGITALES | Educación Social | Scoop.it

Modernising education is about competences, not just technology

Modernising education is about competences, not just technology | Educación Social | Scoop.it

“Education is a kind of dynamic movement where improvements are based on the specific ability and competences of teachers. Turning our classical liceo into a modern liceo, using instruments to improve innovation and teaching, is our main goal. […] Our students go from absorbing lessons like a sponge into actors that play a real role in a cooperative technologically-supported class.”

Lindsay Ahmann's curator insight, January 10, 2014 10:28 PM

This article effected me in the way of how I learn best. I am an audible learner but i also like to have a hard book to flip the pages of and look back on, instead of having to switch screens . Part of me has an aversion to reading long articles/stories/content online because in a textbook, i can use post-it notes, fold over pages, and flip back and forth easily. It is great that they are trying to make everything uniform with teachers and students, but not everyone learns the same or enjoys staring at a screen for countless hours in order to finish their homework. The internet is also a huge distraction.

I particularly like the part that concerns  to train for positive assertion versus constant compliance. The compliance to please teachers versus the ownership of learning all  to please parents often provides a conflict for me.

Jenn Alevy's comment, January 13, 2014 3:44 AM
The only concern I have and I have not read the book, is that her assertions seem to be feeding into the culture of fear and would like to see the stats she refers to when she says youth crime is on the rise. And whose morals is she talking about? People come from a variety of countries and cultures, I hope she does not assume we are all on the same page about 'moral' issues, she may be more conservative while others are more liberal in their beliefs.
Ness Crouch's curator insight, January 14, 2014 9:30 PM

This is an important article. Some teachers find themselves in situations where they are teaching ethical behaviour to children. This is worth a read.

A Principal's Reflections: The People and Moments That Define Us

A Principal's Reflections: The People and Moments That Define Us | Educación Social | Scoop.it

"I knew early on in my education career that I wanted to be an administrator. The predominant reason for this was that I wanted to at least attempt to be a fraction of the leader that my father was.  My father was an elementary principal for 30 years and I always admired how he was able to inspire his staff to focus on student learning. To say that he was beloved by all would be a significant understatement.  He also consistently did those little things (dressing up for Halloween, cooking breakfast for his staff) that on the surface don’t seem like a big deal, but meant so much to his staff and students. His calm and collective nature allowed him to effectively deal with adverse situations. To this day I still go to my father for advice. To sum it up, he was the total package as an administrator. "

What Teachers (And Students) Must Know About Cyberbullying - Edudemic

What Teachers (And Students) Must Know About Cyberbullying - Edudemic | Educación Social | Scoop.it
School isn't just about learning and books, as teachers are already well aware. For students, going to school also teaches them about a slew of life lessons - and interacting with others is at the top of that list.

Lindsay Ahmann's curator insight, January 11, 2014 7:17 PM

Cyberbullying has become a major problem since smartphones first came out because it is right at your fingertips all the time. The rates of suicide have significantly gone up and people have suffered from low self-esteem and depression.

joseph's curator insight, January 11, 2014 11:16 PM

This relates to the idea that schools are now checking student facebooks and other media websites. some students are being suspended for cyber bullying and teachers are becomeing more aware of the fact that it happens often.
