The global talent gap is long-lamented and continues to grow — in the U.S. alone, there are currently 9.6 million job openings compared to 6.5 million unemployed.
This has many calling for upskilling and re-skilling of existing workforces. However, while many business leaders recognize that need, they are hampered by a lack of time, resources and funds to develop materials on which to train their workers.
This is another area that — like so many others — where generative AI offers transformative promise, according to Cypher Learning. The learning management system provider released a study this week exploring leaders’ challenges with upskilling, their exploration of gen AI in building training materials and the promise the technology holds in repairing the schism between the number of workers and available jobs.
“Generative AI is already transforming employee training,” CYPHER Learning founder and CEO Graham Glass told VentureBeat. “In 2024, the focus will be on reimagining education with AI at its core.”

Comparing Virtual Learning Techniques Upon Technology Acceptance and Student Engagement in Differing Classroom Environment
With divergent educational processes brought forth through the unforeseen circumstances such as a global pandemic, students have become obligated to pursue virtual means towards obtaining their education. Therefore, this study seeks to review the different formats of virtual learning processes and methodologies that are currently made available to students based on student and user perception and technology adoption efforts. Through comparative analysis efforts identifying synchronous, hybrid and asynchronous virtual educational standards across multiple publications and understanding technology acceptance models (TAM) and theories such as perceived usefulness, it is understood that virtual learning efforts which pursue an asynchronous methodology are more comparable in contrast other formats.

How is Web 3.0 different from Web 1.0 and Web 2.0? Web 1.0 harks back to the early days of the Internet in the 1990s. At that time, most web pages consisted of static text and basic information, and connecting to the Internet required dialing up through a modem. Connection speeds were slow and Internet access was not ubiquitous. The ‘World Wide Web’ was little more than a collection of unorganized content on individual webpages which contained little or no interactive features. Web 2.0 emerged in the 2000s and, unlike Web 1.0, it features user-participation and social networking. Blogs emerged as popular individual publishing spaces and wikis encouraged collaborative writing and editing. Fast internet speeds opened the door for interactive content and platforms like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook that give users a chance to communicate and share information and content. The participatory nature of “read/write” Web 2.0 has given voice to the masses, but at the same time it has largely been driven by a handful of large corporations, such as Google and Facebook, leading to a centralization of user data and content. Web 3.0 is largely an attempt to counter the centralization of user data and content in the hands of a relatively small number of organizations. Visions of Web 3.0 are driven by the idea of Web decentralization and incorporate new technical infrastructure that facilitates communication and information exchanges in which no company or government can control the data. In Web 3.0, Internet users would control their own data, and it would follow them to various platforms and applications.

A once in a lifetime pandemic. A once in a lifetime opportunity. Teaching in the year 2020 reminds me of a quote from “Inherit the Wind:” “Perhaps it is you who has moved away by standing still.” All at once our world was completely halted by a global pandemic the worst in 100 years and yet in a moment of crisis an opportunity to create appeared. Are we going to move away from progress by standing still?
