In the corner of Jason Steele’s classroom at Oblock Junior High School in Plum, Pa., two 3-D printers whirred softly as they slowly created two objects out of blue plastic thread.

Mr. Steele is using the four printers in his eighth-grade technology education classes to allow students to develop a three-dimensional object on a computer and turn it into a physical product.

Instant Project Visibility | LeanKit | EDUCACIÓN 3.0 - EDUCATION 3.0 | Scoop.it
LeanKit is a simple, visual project and process management tool that allows organizations to easily visualize and manage the flow of their work, while collaborating with team members to consistently deliver results.

Online, Visual Project Boards

In LeanKit, you map your organization’s processes onto virtual whiteboards. On each board the process steps are represented as vertical and horizontal lanes. Cards represent work items, which team members update and move from across the board as they complete their share of the work.

Rather than having to ask for status reports, managers and customers can just look at the board. Board updates are visible in seconds around the globe and e-mail alerts and RSS feeds are available, so you and your team can take immediate action to resolve issues before they turn into serious problems.

As per the Common Core State Standards students must incorporate digital research in their work.  I interpret this to mean that students need a twenty-first century version of book sense.

We used to teach students how to find books in a library, how to determine who the author and illustrator is, and where to find copyright information.  We now need to teach them how to determine keywords, know how to search, be able to determine who created a particular web page and evaluate a page for bias and reliability.

Stop knocking curation

Stop knocking curation | EDUCACIÓN 3.0 - EDUCATION 3.0 | Scoop.it
It’s an important, and undervalued, journalistic skill

Information overload drives content consumers to look for human-filtered, journalist-vetted, intellectually-related material. This hunger for coherence isn’t unreasonable; it’s essential. And for some of us who think and write every day, gathering bits of thread that can then be elegantly knit into a thoughtful narrative isn’t cheating, or lazy. Far from it. Curating is in many ways harder than writing (at least good curating). It’s far easier for me to write 500 words from my head than to find themes and sources and tie them into a broader narrative.
