Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight, September 14, 2013 10:44 PM

"Although the global apocalypse did not occur on 21 December 2012, the year 2012 was full of apocalyptic headlines about the end of the university as we know it.

Three main drivers have been and still are fuelling these predictions: the worldwide massification of higher education, the increasing use of information and communication technology in teaching and the delivery of education, and the ongoing globalisation of higher education.

These developments will make the traditional university obsolete in 2038. At least, that’s what some want us to believe.

The massification of higher education worldwide – even more than the massification in Western Europe, the United States and Japan in the post-war period – demands new and more efficient types of delivery."

Moving to a Personalized Learning Environment (PLE) is a culture shift. Moving an entire district or a region to a system with sustainable PLEs takes time and a process. PLEs are built on a human infrastructure with groups of people where some may be definitely ready and others resistant. Those that are ready may still hesitate to jump in unless they have the support and resources they need when they need it.

Mais cocriação e menos hierarquia: trabalho no futuro será redefinido

Mais cocriação e menos hierarquia: trabalho no futuro será redefinido | Educação, EaD e Games | Scoop.it

I would be interested to read about what type of research they used showed the impact on learning. To study gamification it seems in a real world context, one would have to employ a strategy such as design-based research. There are many variables that can impact learning. I would suspect that gamification may be the key to create the motivation to engage in the first place but we would have to look at the entire learning environment to really see what is going on here.

Very interesting Article.

"But there is still resistance from filmmakers. Cage cited directors Steven Spielberg and George Lucas who publicly stated it's impossible to tell a story that is controlled by a player. "It's interesting to see that maybe they're not fully aware of what this industry is really doing," he said. "Because actually we are making it, we are creating interactive storytelling."

Educação 3.0 coloca o aluno no centro do processo de aprendizagem

Educação 3.0 coloca o aluno no centro do processo de aprendizagem | Educação, EaD e Games | Scoop.it

Connectivism as a Digital Age Learning Theory

George Siemens and Stephen Downes developed a theory for the digital age, called connectivism, denouncing boundaries of behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. Their proposed learning theory has issued a debate over whether it is a learning theory or instructional theory or merely a pedagogical view.
