Students and teachers live, learn, and lead in the context which all tools are being used. The "tech leaders" I experienced were/are outside the classroom.

Why Moodle Is Becoming Irrelevant | LearnDash

Why Moodle Is Becoming Irrelevant | LearnDash | EdTech Innovations | Scoop.it

For many organizations today, Moodle is the cornerstone of their learning program. From Moodle, they launch courses, administer quizzes, manage users, and much more. When it first hit the scene, it was applauded for the flexibility it gave the everyday user to establish a learning management system.

Today, not so much.

Moodle is still very popular, but this is arguably driven because of the brand and the way that they have preferred partners implementing their platform.

In fact, I would argue that popularity is decreasing, and for two primary reasons:

It is ugly.It is not user friendly.

Design and aesthetics are important enough to improve Moodle. An LMS doesn't need to be boxy and boring. I agree it needs to be brought up to date and to increase a great deal in user functionality and ease of use.

Digital technologies are tools which is so aptly pointed out in the article. They do not replace human relationships and are instruments which can be used in furthering those relationships. Education is a relational process. School devolves into the instrumental by those who struggle in the relational messiness of life.

Achieve3000, Inc. Granted U.S. Patent for Online Differentiated Instruction Methodology

Achieve3000, Inc. Granted U.S. Patent for Online Differentiated Instruction Methodology | EdTech Innovations | Scoop.it
LAKEWOOD, N.J. (PRWEB) May 14, 2014 -- Company’s Online Literacy Instruction Improves Student Reading and Writing, Prepares Them for College and Career Success
J. Mark Schwanz's insight:

The receipt of this patent by Achieve3000 is proof that new differentiated learning technologies are becoming the norm. School is not business as usual. Schools that refuse to adapt towards personalized, differentiated learning will be left behind.

One program or suite of programs can't be a panacea for all. Instead each learning community must determine,  with input from all stakeholders, what tools are in their universe. Then, they must not just have the toolkit at the ready; it must be utilized to its full potential.

Teaching will never be replaced by tools. As I've seen with Achieve3000, the tool brings together complimentary, leveled reading texts, communication with the teacher, with data and  high levels of relevancy. More connected. More care. More careful. That's what we all want for our learning communities.

This is why I'm involved as a RAP with FEV Tutor. I am thrilled to provide access to personalized, differentiated, hyper-focused academic support. It's so great to see the results when students and teachers get the right help at just the right time.

The Unfulfilled Promise Of Educational Technology

The Unfulfilled Promise Of Educational Technology | EdTech Innovations | Scoop.it
With 50 million public school students in America, technology holds much potential to transform schools. So why isn't it happening?
J. Mark Schwanz's insight:

I agree with MIchael Blanding in this article. I have experienced the phenomena first-hand that he sites where urban schools have been systematically left out of the edtech surge. Improvements are being seen but there is a growing gap between schools that are truly reforming and those that aren't.

I am a RAP with FEV Tutor to do my part to address this inequity. I want more students to have access to the personalization of learning that edtech can provide. Through tools like ours we can provide equitable, economical access to customized learning with qualified instructors and specialists.

I appreciate the third transformation Blanding mentions: productivity. WIth FEV Tutor we come along-side the teachers and school administrators to provide effective use of intervention funding. Instead of over-taxing busy educators, we can bring in tutors who work with the students and teachers on custom learning plans. On a district level, this is transformative because we can help them help more students than they could on their own.
