Seventy-five million young people are unemployed. Yet only 43 percent of employers surveyed say they can find enough skilled workers for entry-level openings. Compounding the situation is a fundamental disconnect between how different actors view the problem, and a lack of understanding about what makes for a successful education to employment system.

As technology continues its march toward the Singularity, transforming the way we work, socialize and play at an increasing rate, there is one very important aspect of American society that lags behind: education.

The university is in danger of losing its monopoly, and for good reason. The most visible threat are the new online courses, many of them free, with some of the best professors in their respective fields.
