The 2013 nesting season has begun at the Cleveland, Ohio nest site on top of "Tower City."  Deborah Mathies, an excellent teacher from NY sends the Falcon Flash News throughout the season to all classes that register.  Mrs. Mathies uses the Falcon Flash to post news, background science information, and amazing photos from volunteer nest monitor, Scott Wright.  Students can watch the falcons through falcon cams supported by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History: http://www.falconcam-cmnh.org/news.php ; Take advantage of this great opportunity for your students to participate in a virtual "field study" of falcons.

What It Takes to Become an All Project-Based School

What It Takes to Become an All Project-Based School | EdTech Footenotes | Scoop.it

In many schools, project-based learning happens in isolated cases: in certain teachers’ classrooms here and there, or in the contexts of specific subjects. But for students to benefit from project-based learning, ideally it’s part of a school’s infrastructure — a way to approach learning holistically.

Free Technology for Teachers: VideoNotes - A Great Tool for Taking Notes While Watching Academic Videos | EdTech Footenotes | Scoop.it

VideoNotes is a neat new tool for taking notes while watching videos. VideoNotes allows you to load any YouTube video on the left side of your screen and on the right side of the screen VideoNotes gives you a notepad to type on. VideoNotes integrates with your Google Drive account. By integrating with Google Drive VideoNotes allows you to share your notes and collaborate on your notes just as you can do with a Google Document.

I have just began testing this recommendation by Richard Byrne on Free Technology 4 Teachers.  But in the time I have taken to test the web resource, I have found it to live up to the billing of syncrhonizing notes to the video.  Now the video used was from YouTube and the site does have an option for other videos.  So, I will be looking further into what other video sources it will work with while synchronizing one's notes to Google Drive.

Thanks for your comment Dean - I have had some problems - when deleting a 'chapter mark' it seems to throw sync of subsequent markers - just something to be aware of. or possible just me?

7 Great iPad Apps to Promote Visual Thinking ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

7 Great iPad Apps to Promote Visual Thinking ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | EdTech Footenotes | Scoop.it

Today while I was looking for a citation from " Making Thinking Visible: How to Promote Engagement, Understanding, and Independence for All Learners " http://ow.ly/k2SpU ; , it dawned on me to compile a list of the  popular iPad apps that promote visual thinking. Making Thinking Visible is by all means a must read for those of you interested in knowing how thinking can be made visible at any grade level and across all subject areas through the use of effective questioning, listening, documentation, and facilitative structures called thinking routines. Another book I have in my shelf and which is more or less similar to the one cited above is " Blah Blah Blah: What To Do When Words Don't Work " http://ow.ly/k2Svy ; in which Dan walks his readers through the different practices of making thinking vivid with less words."
