Not too many people I know of can make people laugh at an LAUSD board meeting. Krashen is a library advocate bar none. Books have made the difference. "The better the school library, the higher the reading scores."

Very interesting that Duncan and co. are looking for more..."federal spending on early education, more resources for poor schools through Title I, more money for innovative approaches in education and a cap on statewide testing."

It just seems to me that new legislation is long overdue and that there are too many issues clouding the messaging, Common Core, testing, et. al. Dems and POTUS seek to couch the new legislation in terms of social justice and civil rights.

New research from Brookings Senior Fellow Melissa Kearney and Wellesley College’s Phillip Levine shows that children living in places where the broadcast signal for Sesame Street was strong were 14 percent less likely to be behind in school compared to children living in places with a weak signal reception.

I hadn't made this connection, that Sesame Street could help bring better results to the MOOC learning world. For anyone who has taken a MOOC you would probably agree much could be done to make the experience more enjoyable. How far towards "entertainment" are we willing to go?

I agree that more research should have been down before MOOCs had the huge hype but let's affirm any organization that would fund reputable research into online and distance education.
