Helping Learners Get The Most Out Of Online Discussions

Helping Learners Get The Most Out Of Online Discussions | EdTech | Scoop.it

"Online discussions are the lifeblood of an online class. Without rich, ongoing discussions, learning is minimized. However, many online courses don’t help online learners understand how to post a new idea or response; the types of communications or posts that contribute to learning or share examples of good posts. As a result, online learners are often left to their own devices with many online discussions stalling or sinking to a level of mediocrity."

The You Want to Know About Copyright in Education Infographic

The You Want to Know About Copyright in Education Infographic | EdTech | Scoop.it

As I’ve mentioned before—it is not only important for educators to encourage students to push the technological envelope, but it’s equally essential that we teach them to navigate the digital world in a responsible manner. But in order to do so, we must first become familiar with copyright rules and fair use guidelines ourselves—a task that can seem very daunting and frustrating at times.

If you’ve ever used online materials for teaching and learning, then I’m sure you have wondered one or more of the following: Do I need permission to use this image? Can I share this video on my classroom web site? Would it be best for my me and/or my students to create my/their own media?

Well, it may not answer all of your burning questions, but the copyright flowchart shown below will surely help with some of the confusion surrounding this very relevant and significant topic.

Traditional learning spaces are a classic example of efficiency through replication — as if there were a classroom machine that has been punching out the same room over and over for decades. A number of concepts have emerged for the design of new learning spaces: those that enable a specific form of teaching; those that enable teachers to teach how they want; and those that enable students to learn how they want.

Great selection of whiteboard Apps.

Greg Atkinson's curator insight, March 13, 2015 10:59 AM

Although this article lends itself more to mobile learning, I thought that I should begin to incorporate "there's an app for that" stories that will have relevance for hybrid learning.  This piece highlights 4 "interactive whiteboard" apps (Doceri, ShowMe, Explain Everything, and EduCreations).  Although I have not used any of these apps, Doceri looks intriguing in that it apparently allows you to sync your iPad to the technology into the classroom so that you can project what is on your iPad onto the classroom Smartboard.

Mary Starry's curator insight, June 14, 2014 9:11 AM

I don't see color used very often on pharmacy webpages or handouts. Maybe we consider our subject matter as too serious to incorporate color.  However, color can help with learning. A key point here is to use bold, not bright!

Assessing What Your Students Know, Want to Know, and Have Learned

Assessing What Your Students Know, Want to Know, and Have Learned | EdTech | Scoop.it
Measuring student success is a top priority to ensure the best possible student outcomes. Through the years instructors have implemented new and creative strategies to assess student learning in both traditional and online higher education classrooms. Assessments can range from formative assessments, which monitor student learning with quick, efficient, and frequent checks on learning; to summative assessments, which evaluate student learning with “high stakes” exams, projects, and papers at the end of a unit or term.
