This is really a great way to get something done using technology that just would not have been possible even a couple of years ago. I have found that these three ideas for deciding when to use a technologically based approach to get something done are as useful today as when I first came across them about 20 years ago:

Technology is the preferred way to get something done if it-

Enables you to get it done better

Faster

Or to do something that just couldn't be previously done at all.

What a great way to generate ideas to stimulate one's work.

Skills needed in 2020 are on the minds of many.  This report captures the important intersection of sense-making, virtual collaboration, trust and advanced media, teaching/learning competencies required.

Colleges and University would benefit from thinking through their curricular offerings through the lens offered in this article and also challenge themselves to discover, design and create valid assessment methods that really measure these skills.

Exciting challenges for us in Higher Education.

Go Paperless | Cybraryman Internet Catalogue | EdTech and E-learning | Scoop.it

By Jerry Blumengarten

Summary by EdSurge

"Not so much a tool as a philosophy, GO PAPERLESS is a curated list of nearly 30 tool recommendations and how-to guides intended to ease teachers' transition to a paperless classroom. Some of the usual suspects like Evernote and Dropbox make the list, but we're impressed by Genius Scan, an analog-to-digital document converter. For the practical-minded or cash-strapped, there's also low-tech solutions like using desks as writing surfaces. Tip of the hat to the Cybraryman himself, Jerry Blumengarten.

Most people are good citizens in the offline world. They are kind to others, they obey laws and want their community to be a better place.

But these days many of us are also citizens of the online world. We participate in discussions, share photos, and get help using websites. While this makes communication faster and easier, it can also cause problems. Click here to edit the content...

A Must Have App Evaluation Rubric for Teachers

A Must Have App Evaluation Rubric for Teachers | EdTech and E-learning | Scoop.it

How about after you find the apps, do you know how to evaluate their pedagogic implications ? Are they educationally valid ? Do they target skills you want your students to work on ? Are they flexible enough to let students learn in different settings ? Are they student friendly ?

Interesting application, but the content has the same trouble that many of the rubric available on the web: It says nothing:
Ove Christensen's comment, December 9, 2012 6:38 AM
Well I think you should see it as a help for reflection on apps and use of apps. No tools are doing the hard work for you but they help you to remember what to cover.
Jim Lerman's comment, December 9, 2012 5:44 PM
@Cristian...I don't see it the same way. The criteria, in my opinion, do provide a useful framework for judging the efficacy of a web app. The value in the criteria is implicit; if one shares the values inherently stated in the criteria (for example, "authentic practice of targeted skills"), then I think the criteria are indeed helpful. If the values and meaning of the criteria do no speak to you, the reader, then I can see where one could feel they do not say anything. As Ove says, "no tools are doing the hard work for you."
