Ethical Behavior

Ethical Behavior | Higher Education | Scoop.it
Ethical Behavior, by Dr. Matthews: Ethics in the Workplace (Ethical Behavior is out!
MFaculty's insight:

The essence of authentic leadership is ethical behavior. Consider the famous Man in the Glass poem.

The Man in the Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife,
Who judgment upon you must pass;
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life Is the one starring back from the glass.

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest. For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed the most dangerous, difficult test If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may be fool the rest, they think you're a chum -

and call you a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years. And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be the heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.

MFaculty's insight:

There have always been opponents to Learning Management Systems (LMS) and the nature of discourse ensures that there will always be voices in opposition of technology adoption.

note, I said 'adoption' as in adding to, bringing on, integrating with...not replacement! If the fear is obsolescence, then the solution is proactive professional development in using tech to teach.

Feel free to disagree, but I find using LMS's more limit-less, than limiting.

Too often the word on the street is “my school or class has new iPads but we don’t know what to do with them.” The best part about these devices is that they get the learning into the actual hands of students- make learning “hands-on.” That is NOT a new concept. Dewey, Montessori, David Kolb knew this long before the digital age- constructivism is one of the most effective ways to learn anything.

Online education continues to disrupt the traditional model for higher education as Americans become more accepting of them.

MFaculty's insight:

Due, in part, to the improved technologies, and the adaptation of more modernized teaching methodologies, students are increasingly able to fill gaps in their education experience, through online and blended learning offerings.

This provides faculty an opportunity to expand their teaching pedagogy to one of increased engagement. Faculty familiarity and increased use of technology, enables classroom integration with real-world events. Students can now be afforded access to applied best practices, instead of theory alone.

"Rapidly approaching the dog days of summer (give or take a few days or weeks), I felt a need to share a power packed suitcase of tools that could be used to archive your summer highlights and memories. Hopefully, these tools will exceed your souvenir quota and prove to be true digital treasures for the 2014-2015 school year as well.
