I like the feature of being able to grade the discussions. I love Edmodo, however, Schoology looks like a great solution for secondary classes and their workflow.

Where Edmodo edges out Schoology...

Professional Learning Community. Edmodo has been around longer - about a year to be exact. Perhaps for that reason - or perhaps because of a different company focus - its professional learning networks are more mature and active than those in Schoology. I myself am part of quite a few Edmodo groups and find them helpful to connect with other educators and get ideas. The "discover" link on your page is also a neat tool to find great resources that you otherwise might not come across.Small Groups. Schoology's platform allows for the creation of different classes, and even the ability to invidivually assign quizzes or assignments, but you cannot create small groups. In Edmodo, you not only have the ability to do this, but the tool is easy and intuitive. Moreover, it is possible to have the same students in multiple small groups - a great feature when creating multiple project groups or ability-based scaffolded groups.

Where Schoology has Edmodo beat... iOS App / iPad Workflow. This was the biggest win for me. I should have honestly put this one first and could write an entire post on it. Instead, I'll just bold the subtitle and make the font red so hopefully you continue to reading to here. The Schoology iPad app solved (almost) all of my iPad Workflow issues. It's a one-stop solution for turning in students' digital work directly to Schoology assignments - from almost every productivity / creation iPad app we use (without having to first put it in a backpack or another file repository as Edmodo requires). It works with any app that allows you to either save the video or image to your photo roll, or open the file into another app. Some examples: Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie, Puppet Pals, Popplet, PaperPort Notes, iAnnotate and Doceri / Explain Everything (the screencasting apps we used to replace Educreations / ShowMe / ScreenChomp).

view a newsfeed from other educators;create your own profile;receive notificationspost lesson plans;take notescreate tests and quizzes;Review your students’ scores.

From the looks of it, you can say that it’s specially designed to regain students’ interest to learn.

Features:

Edmodo comes with four special features (Engage, Connect, Measure and Personalize):

Engage: If you have a lesson that you need to continue, you can do so online. Teachers can also create a poll to see if their students understood the lesson today.

Developing Writing Skills With Edmodo

Developing Writing Skills With Edmodo | Curating SOCIAL LEARNING with edmodo - the free social learning network (#e-learning, #self-learning) | Scoop.it

To help students develop their writing skills I’ve created two additional groups for my classes which we call “iBlog” and “What Do You Think?”

In iBlog, one student is chosen weekly and they are given the opportunity to blog about their personal interests. Besides having to use complete sentences and demonstrate the correct use of punctuation and spelling, they are required to include pictures and links to websites, articles and/or videos related to their specified interest. In “What Do You Think?”, students are required to respond to high interest articles with their opinions, and provide additional digital resources that piggy back upon previous responses. All posts are reviewed and critiqued on our interactive white board.

Advice for Teachers New to Edmodo

I would suggest that any new teacher interested in giving Edmodo a try should go straight to Edmodo.com and watch the introductory video as well any available tutorial videos in the Edmodo Help Center or at YouTube.

Also, seek out fellow Edmodo users at your school for a more hands on approach and join Edmodo Communities to learn about the creative ways in which tech savvy teachers are integrating this amazing educational tool! It’s easy, fun and safe to use for students and teachers alike.

awesome, like it, Interesting, Tough / Challenging, Not taught in Class, Need more Time, Bored, Need Help ...
...

...

oder beteiligtsich an der Übersetzungs-Community:

Educational Technology Guy: Edmodo - first year using it with my students - so far, AWESOME!

Educational Technology Guy: Edmodo - first year using it with my students - so far, AWESOME! | Curating SOCIAL LEARNING with edmodo - the free social learning network (#e-learning, #self-learning) | Scoop.it

It's really easy to use, there are tons of places to go for help and ideas and tips, and the students love it. Many had already used it last year with other teachers, so it was even easier to get them using it in my class.

Some of the features I love:

1. Closed system. I can post the information to join the Evernote Group, the online textbook access codes, and much more here and only the students in my class can see it.

2. Parent access. I am currently setting up parent access to Edmodo. Parents will only see notices I post to the parent group and their own child's information. Edmodo even has sample welcome/invite letters and how-to info for parents.

3. I can easily post an announcement or alert to all my groups at once. With the blogs, I had to post to the Physics one and then the AP Physics one separately.

4. Library. It's very easy to upload files and share them to any or all groups.

5. Support. There is a vibrant user community and support materials available, making it easy to find help.
