Conferences Powered by Edmodo - For the past two years we’ve been proud to power the Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC). This year, we were excited to see additional event organizers power their conference by Edmodo including, VSTE, NCTies, CETPA, TIECo, SOTF Conference, SC Edtech, FAME and Florida Virtual School Symposium!
Edmodo is a free service that allows teachers to create and maintain their own safe and secure classroom communities across every type of PC and wireless device. Edmodo is used to share educational content, manage projects and assignments, handle notifications, conduct quizzes and events, and facilitate highly engaging learning experiences among students in classes and colleagues in professional learning networks.
Edmodo is a private social networking site where teachers, students, and parents can connect, engage and learn; taking learning beyond the classroom walls.
Edmodo has advanced privacy settings built in, making it a very safe, secure, (and free) platform for schools. Its’ visual similarity to Facebook makes it extremely user-friendly for teachers and students of all ages; and isn’t blocked in most school systems.
In an attempt to prevent outsiders from joining school networks, Edmodo provides special codes to schools and classes. These codes are given to students and are necessary to join groups. The company has recently enhanced the security of the Edmodo service by implementing SQL Ingestion protection to prevent unauthorized access to the website's resources and database.
The design of Edmodo is a bit more streamlined, and therefore it's user friendly. Students will know what to do right away with it because they've seen it before (if they have a Facebook account). You can post documents, post quizzes, post to a calendar, embed documents and video.
It's now possible to set your Edmodo group so all posts and replies must be moderated by the teacher. This setting is similar to what some teachers may remember with tools like Kidblog or Google's Blogger.
