We do in fact love other tablets especially Motorolla Xoom, Samsung GalaxyTab 10.1, and LG Optimus tablet and we do believe they have a promising potential in education as well but for now it seems that iPad is leading the mobile learning revolution. This is probably due to the kind of investment Apple is having in education.

When we look at our reading habits and our daily interaction with all this digital data that surrounds us day and night, it becomes clear that Kress point does make sense and that the traditional meaning of literacy is now being completely revolutionized with clear shift towards the visual.

So as you focus in your PLC or staff meetings on better “research-based instruction,” you’re looking at ways to improve how to better deliver instruction–more to understand how to better “give learning” than to cause it.

Creating custom timelines is an age old school project, especially for history classes (since history is basically a giant timeline, after all!) Way back in the day, when I was a student, I remember drawing out my timelines with colored pencils on pieces of taped together construction paper (to make the line long enough). We’ve come a long way since the late ’80′s, and there are a lot of web tools and apps out there that help users make much more advanced timelines than I could crank out with my awesome colored pencils. Whether you’re using them to chronicle well known historical events, or your own personal history, these tools can bring together audio, video, photos, text, and more to showcase a well rounded, multimedia timeline to tell your story.

Please spend sometime going through the different levels of SAMR as explained in the poster below and try to compare them with your technology use in your classroom. Also, try to answer all the questions posed and at the end you will have a clear picture of not only  how much technology you are using in your teaching but also how effective is this technology in your classroom.

What differentiates the best from the rest? There’s no shortage of bodies (some dramatically misguided) attempting to solve this riddle.  The answers are nebulous at best. Below is a list of traits, some of which may be familiar but many of which will never show up on any sort of performance review.  Check them out and see what you think.

The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency. It’s curious they haven’t really “caught on” in schools considering how well they bridge both the old-form textbook habit of cramming tons of information into a small space, while also neatly overlapping with the dynamic and digital world.

Managing one’s digital identity is a skill , so to speak, that we need to learn and teach our kids and students. In a world digitally focused, the boundaries between the real and virtual are blurred . As teachers and educators, we need to be a role model for our students and show them how they can interact with the virtual world and what they should do to keep themselves safe.
