BBC News: More than 700 performers are to take part in a parade through the centre of Edinburgh later this month as part of the city's Jazz Festival Carnival. Dancers, musicians and acrobats from across the world will make their way from the Mound to the West End before finishing up in Princes Street Gardens and The Ross Theatre.

The parade will begin the festivities at 14:30 on 17 July. The event is free and there will also be a performance stage and a market in the Grassmarket.

STV: A major public consultation has been launched to canvass views on how Edinburgh's coveted world heritage site should be protected. The capital's old and new towns have held the status since 1995 and are among just six world heritage sites in Scotland.

Herald Scotland: Harry's, the Edinburgh bar that has been a fixture of the city's scene since the 1980s, reopens tonight after a six-figure investment, forming what is claimed to be the capital’s first social enterprise pub chain. The bar is being opened by Chris Thewlis, who last year opened another social enterprise pub, the Southside Social.

The bar will seek to employ and train young people from hard-to-reach backgrounds, such as those who struggled at school, are unemployed, or who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Harry’s reopens complete with its dancefloor back in place for anyone wishing to cut some shapes after a craft beer from the likes of Drygate and Stewart Brewing.

STV: Edinburgh has been ranked among the top cities in the UK to travel in. Researchers rated 33 cities across the UK in terms of travelling locally and also travelling from, taking into account attitudes towards public transport.

The Edinburgh Reporter: Three designs have been chosen as winners of the Edinburgh International Festival Fireworks Concert Poster competition. The winners are Ailsa Morrison (12) from Edinburgh, Carlotta Ecks (8) from Dunbar and a collaboration effort by six pupils between the ages of 5 and 8 from St Cuthbert’s RC Primary School Edinburgh.

Herald Scotland: An Edinburgh-based South Asian food entrepreneur has won a contract valued at £150,000 to supply flavoured naan breads to Asda. The Mrs Unis Spicy Foods business run by Shaheen Unis will supply the supermarket chain with Naans in Keema, Cheese and Coriander, Meetha and Chicken Tikka and Coriander flavours.

The company sells its range of handmade pakora in Asda’s 61 Scottish stores, ranging from the Highlands to the Borders. Mrs Unis said the firm was looking at some exciting expansion plans with Asda's help.

The Scotsman: Edinburgh Zoo has welcomed its latest intake – a group of endangered gentoo penguin chicks. The gentoo penguins have so far produced 22 chicks, which began hatching last month, at the city zoo.

Edinburgh Evening News: An airline has announced its largest ever winter programme of flights from Edinburgh Airport. Bosses at Jet2.com said more than 135,000 seats would be available between October 30 and March 25 next year. The programme means the company has more than doubled the number of winter seats since the 2015-16 season.

The Edinburgh Reporter: A 240-strong team from People’s Postcode Lottery rolled up their sleeves to help the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) clean up Cramond Beach in Edinburgh. Having received £450,000 from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, MCS invited the team from the charity lottery, based in the capital, to join them on a two-hour beach clean and to learn more about their work. More than £124.1 million in total has been raised so far by players of People’s Postcode Lottery for charities around Great Britain and internationally.

BBC News: The 70th year of the Edinburgh International Film Festival comes to a close with the world premiere of Gillies MacKinnon's remake of the 1949 Ealing comedy Whisky Galore. The film is based on Sir Compton Mackenzie's whimsical tale of a Hebridean community's efforts to hide away the cases of whisky plundered from a cargo ship which runs aground in gale force winds. It stars acclaimed Scottish actor James Cosmo, who is a patron of the film festival, as the local minister in the film.

He has a knighthood – and a CBE. He is as British as you can get, Reg Dwight from Pinner, and at the first juncture he told us all that he loved coming to Scotland and had spent childhood holidays here. The 69 year-old megastar may look a little different, but he rocked Meadowbank as though none of the intervening years mattered much. He is generally considered to be a music legend, and rightly so.

Herald Scotland: The 70th edition of the annual festival has been deemed "hugely successful" by its organisers after 51,947 admissions to events were recorded.

The Daily Record:  Edinburgh Airport reports it has already received thousands of responses to its Let’s Go Further airspace change programme consultation launched on 6 June. The 14 week public consultation is seeking views on the potential impact of altering flight paths above Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.

Herald Scotland: Descendants of the Battle of Somme have come together at Edinburgh Castle to mark the 100th anniversary of Britain's bloodiest battle. The Somme was the largest western front battle of the First World War, beginning on July 1 1916 and ending 141 days later on November 18.

An overnight vigil will be held on 30 June at the Scottish National War Memorial, organised in partnership with WW100 Scotland, Royal British Legion Scotland, the Ministry of Defence, Historic Environment Scotland and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The memorial will be open between 6.45pm and 8.30pm for the public to pay respects to those who fell.

The National: A rare early 18th-century Japanese scroll has been unveiled at Edinburgh Central Library after two years of intensive restoration. Created by Japanese artist Furuyama Moromasa, the 300-year-old hand-painted scroll was found hidden deep within a city archive as part of the library’s special collections in 2012.

After it was discovered, Edinburgh City Libraries team worked with National Museums Scotland to secure funding from the Sumitomo Foundation scroll’s restoration by the Restorient Studios specialists in Leiden, the Netherlands.

STV News: The Irish President is set to receive an honorary degree from Edinburgh University. Michael D Higgins will be presented with a Doctor of Laws during a ceremony at Edinburgh's Usher Hall on Tuesday, the second day of an official visit to Scotland. Mr Higgins said the heritage, culture and language of the two nations were "deeply interwoven", allowing for a "profound connection and understanding" between their people.

The president and his wife, Sabina Higgins, are on a four-day visit to Scotland. He will be present at a dinner in his honour, held by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Timothy O’Shea. On Wednesday, President Higgins will address members of the Scottish Parliament at the Parliament Chamber in Holyrood, followed by a speech at a symposium on Irish history being run by the University of Edinburgh’s School of History, Classics and Archaeology.

The Scotsman: Ten Scottish start-ups will this week take part in an event aimed at matching up company founders with the boardroom talent seen as a key to scaling up their growth plans. Informatics Ventures, organiser of the annual Engage Invest Exploit (EIE) investor showcase, has teamed up with recruitment firm Eden Scott’s TalentSpark initiative to hold the gathering at the University of Edinburgh’s Informatics Forum on Thursday.

The Scotsman: With numbers only marginally back on last year’s record-breaking attendance, the organisers of the Highland show – which finished its four-day run yesterday – declared the event a major success. Estimates put attendance at the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland’s (RHASS) annual festival of farming, which takes place at Ingliston on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at over 187,000 over the course of its four-day run.

Over £8million is estimated to have been spent on shopping at The Royal Highland Show, which contributed £46.2m to the Scottish economy in 2015. The show will return in 2017 for what will be the 177th Royal Highland Show.

The Herald: Revolution Bars Group has revealed it has opened talks to acquire four pubs in Edinburgh for £16 million. The proposed deal would significantly boost Revolution’s Scots business, which has three Revolution outlets, in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The company, which listed on the London Stock Exchange last year, currently has 62 outlets across the UK. These include nine outlets trading under its Revolucion de Cuba brand in towns and cities in England and Wales.

Revolution said the proposed acquisition would enlarge its portfolio of bars and introduce a further brand which it thinks could be rolled out to other sites. The Company’s primary business is the sale of food and drinks to customers of its bars all of, which are occupied under leases from third-parties.
