Promoting a Culture of Learning

Promoting a Culture of Learning | EDCI397 | Scoop.it
Learning is a culture.

It starts as a culture with the students as human beings needing to understand their environment. And it ends as a culture with students taking what we give them and using it

Aprender é uma cultura

Siti Noraisha Mohamed Senin's curator insight, February 18, 2014 11:02 PM

Create the culture of learning by giving room for students to apply what they have learnt without the fear of failing. Even when they do fail, instill in them the motivation to rise up once again.

Different materials and methods for helping students

-Adjustable levels of challenge

-Choices of rewards

-Opportunities to practice

Kelly Craig's insight:

Examples of schools that engage in deep learning through meaningful and real world applications and projects. The schools shown focus more on life skills and less on tests.

I think this is a really wonderful idea and I think more classrooms should be focused on real life skills and deep and meaningful projects. However, this video shows mainly charter schools and I am curious how this wold work in a regular public school or a school that lacks funding and parent and community involvement While this is a wonderful goal for every classroom and school is it a realistic goal?

Twitter Aligned with Blooms' Taxonomy: A Must Have Poster for Your Class ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Twitter Aligned with Blooms' Taxonomy: A Must Have Poster for Your Class ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | EDCI397 | Scoop.it
Kelly Craig's insight:

This is a great guide for seeing how twitter (and other social media outlets) can lead to higher thinking. In our technology based society it is important to know how to properly use social media and to understand its impacts. If teachers engage students in online resources for the purpose of expanding their horizons and give them the opportunity to explore the world in a new and expanded way.

I really like the way this road map "guide" shows how twitter and its functions can be aligned with Blooms Taxonomy.

Good use for a classroom!

Kelly Craig's insight:

Using twitter to connect a class

I think it is very good to allow students an opportunity to use technology to engage in the class and with a broader community. I also feel like I will use a twitter account for my class so that my students can join in on conversations from our class, but on a wider scale. I also really like the idea of a class hashtag (similar to #EDCI397). I also want to use twitter to keep students up to date with homework and assignments.
