A Collaborative Guide to Best Digital Learning Practices for K-12 | DMLcentral

A Collaborative Guide to Best Digital Learning Practices for K-12 | DMLcentral | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it

To teach responsibly in a digital age, we have to respect what our tools can do to help us learn together -- and what tools alone cannot do. We need to be prepared to adapt them to our specific needs as teachers and learners. We need tools that are as open as possible, that are designed to encourage students to participate and not simply consume. And we need to support teachers who are also learning how to use new tools for the most innovative, imaginative, interactive teaching.

The History Of Learning Tools [Infographic]

The History Of Learning Tools [Infographic] | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it

You’re going to want to print out this infographic and, at the very least, share it with your fellow teachers and even students. It’s all about the history of education technology and could be used to educate just about anyone on how far we’ve come in a short period of time. We did a more in-depth look at the history of education technology about a year ago but this infographic is a lot more… fun.

Anyway, the below infographic from CTU can be viewed below or downloaded as a PDF here (so you can fire up that color printer). Enjoy the walk down memory lane!

Rules of Engagement; or, How to Build Better Online Discussion | Online Learning | HYBRID PEDAGOGY | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it

"All participation is not equal. Digital media prompt us for comments, but in an academic setting we should harness this cultural habit to teach the difference between expressing opinion and authentic engagement. Professors often feel unfulfilled by poorly designed peer review exercises with their students. They complain: “The students don’t offer anything helpful. They just write things like ‘I like this part,’ or ‘this doesn’t make any sense,’ or ‘good paper!’” In peer review and in online interaction, we should teach and model for students the best methods of intellectual engagement..."

Crowdsourcing a Curriculum, pt. 1: Program Name | Digital Pedagogy | HYBRID PEDAGOGY

Crowdsourcing a Curriculum, pt. 1: Program Name | Digital Pedagogy | HYBRID PEDAGOGY | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it

The new program’s medium, the internet and its various tools, influences its content, such that throughout the coursework students will consider the various ways that technology and digital space influence communication and engagement with literary texts. Since the program relies on networked media to offer a unique alternative to a more traditional English degree, it makes sense for the program’s creation to also be influenced by networked media practices.
