While watching Steve Dembe (@teach42) present at the Discovery Education Summer Institute (#DENSI2012) he showed several different cool tech tools.  One of the big "aha" moments came when he mentioned "Justand".  Thus, off I went Googling the device.  I came across Tony Vincent's blog post (featued here).  Tony introduces Justin Franks to all of us via an overview of his creation for iPads.  To be honest, I see it taking off and being quite successful.  Thus, be sure to review Tony's blog post in its entirety by clicking on the link provided.

How To Capture Ideas Visually With The iPad

How To Capture Ideas Visually With The iPad | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it

"Visual recording is what it sounds like it’d be. As opposed to recording audio, visual recording captures visuals, though not necessarily in photographic form. The process of visually capturing ideas with the iPad isn’t terribly complex in concept. If you can think of concept-mapping, you’ve halfway there."

I am not a doodler, though my video work obviously requires thinking visually.  I am exploring the world of visual notetaking which has always fascinated me, plus I've seen several people  using sketches on Periscope videos to communicate concepts on the new platform. Looks like fun, either by hand or with apps.

The History 2.0 Classroom: Back to School App-pack

The History 2.0 Classroom: Back to School App-pack | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it

"The summer is quickly winding down & a number of teachers will be returning to their classroom with new mobile devices (iPads). Throughout the summer I have been conducting workshops on iPad integration with EdTechTeacher and I thought it might be helpful to pull together a back to school list of apps structured around specific classroom goals. While many schools may already have an Apple VPP program already in place, I know a number of teachers will also be purchasing the apps themselves. Therefore, I will do my best to include both a pay & free app for each objective."

Enable Closed Captioning on iPhone, iPad, and in iTunes

Enable Closed Captioning on iPhone, iPad, and in iTunes | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it

"Closed Captioning places written text at the bottom of video content, allowing for anyone to read along with the video rather than listen to the audio. This is an essential feature for certain accessibility purposes and for individuals who are hard of hearing, but it’s also just a useful feature to enable if you want to watch a movie silently and read subtitles."

"We used Book Creator to meld our notes and pictures and created voice overs for the books. I wondered if students would emerge from the project with more than just technology skills and they impressed us by answering questions on their books, When I asked them if making the book helped them learn they said ."Yes, cause the information keeps traveling around your head when you need to use it."
