By promoting code literacy, schools could improve education equity, offer inclusion for students with ASD, improve STEM proficiency, and build neuroplasticity associated with multilingual education.

Coding is one of the new education trends that has me missing the classroom.  I hope all educators would consider integrating a lesson or even a "center" in their classroom so students can explore coding.

This resource looks very informative and interesting on how 3D printers are made and used. In the future I can see this being helpful in my chosen discipline of Industrial Design and Technology as i feel that as time goes on they will become more readily available and their uses and potential capabilities will expand.

David Prince's curator insight, May 27, 2015 12:46 AM

After working at the high school for prac 1, I found these machines interesting to say the least. After reading this resource I can relate by seeing them in action as well as having had the opportunity  to design and produce an item from one of these 3d printers. Although the printer I used was more like the generation 1 machine, I know that with continuing technology these 3d printers will improve to levels that we are yet to see in manufacturing. The article also contain valuable information pertaining to many sites giving information on the benefits and uses of these printers.

Brett Coleman's curator insight, May 31, 2015 6:13 AM

This would be great for when students are learning about 3D printing. Also great to see that their are blogs that students could follow about this subject

11 Powerful Chrome Extensions to Try Out | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it
Power up your browser for increased productivity and easier surfing with these useful Google Chrome extensions.
Dean Mantz's insight:

The Next Web posted this write-up today 2/27 and I chose to explore the 11 recommendations.  In exploring through each extension, I decided to test out Pullquote and SmartVideo.

Pullquote is exactly what the name states. Users, after creating an account, can copy/quote material from research material and share it via Twitter with no worries of exceeding the 140 character limit.  The extension provides a shortened URL that provides the quote as an image in your tweet.

SmartVideo is a great option for those connecting to slow Internet.  The extension will not start playing the YouTube video until the buffering has completed or downloaded enough of the feed to play and without reaching the current download point.

4 powerful ways to implement blogging in the classroom - Daily Genius

4 powerful ways to implement blogging in the classroom - Daily Genius | EDUcational Chatter | Scoop.it
Blogging is a popular activity in classrooms today because it allows students to share their writing with a broader audience and teachers to communicate with parents. There are a myriad of platforms to choose from: edublogs, Kidblog (especially good for elementary age children), Blogger, wordpress, and most LMS systems have a blogging platform built in.

How to set up blogging in the classroom will depend on your platform, and is pretty easy to figure out with all of the “how-to” videos and help center collections. What teachers most often ask me is why they would set up a blog for their class. What value is there in a class blog?

Here are some great ideas and applications for class and/or individual student blogs that you can explore in your classroom.

Via John Evans

Great question. A digital literacy development is hampered by educators at all levels who are not digitally literate. And the label of a so-called digital immigrant is a lousy excuse for an educator who is supposed to be about learning.
