Addressing Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs with Technology

Addressing Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs with Technology | Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Technology is way too often given a bad rap by administrators and educators as a distraction or a hazard for students.  When technology is integrated intentionally with foresight and with intention of addressing specific growth-oriented goals, it increases the potential to help students learn, develop, and grow in unique ways.  It can be used to help address the needs as described by Maslow.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, March 2, 7:19 PM

This is a project which is ongoing. Maslow, like others i.e. Ellul, had reservations about computers, but his work is important in their uses.

Lectures Aren't Just Boring, They're Ineffective, Too, Study Finds | Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Are your lectures droning on? Change it up every 10 minutes with more active teaching techniques and more students will succeed, researchers say. A new study finds that undergraduate students in classes with traditional stand-and-deliver lectures are 1.5 times more likely to fail than students in classes that use more stimulating, so-called active learning methods.

From face-to-face teaching to online teaching: pedagogical transitions

From face-to-face teaching to online teaching: pedagogical transitions | Ed Tech | Scoop.it

As higher education has embraced online education as a way to reduce costs, increase flexibility, and enhance access to students it is important to gain an understanding of the perceptions of instructors moving into online teaching. This study found a change in the beliefs and teaching presence of the instructors from their initial resistance to online teaching to an approach which is mindful of the student experience and promotes a dialogical approach to online learning.

There are more benefits from implementing a blended learning approach than keeping the traditional teaching style; however, before incorporating online teaching into our classrooms, there are several factors teachers should take into account. Here is an interesting perspective offered by the University of Southern Queensland you might consider for the pedagogical transition.

Ever wonder what makes those wacky, creative types tick? How is it that some people seem to come up with all kinds of interesting, original work while the rest of us trudge along in our daily routines?

Creative people are different because they operate a little differently.

Grammarly to check and improve your grammar

Grammarly to check and improve your grammar | Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Even the most confident of native speakers can sometimes have doubts about their spelling and grammar. As for learners of English, getting their writing to a really high degree of proficiency can be a real challenge. It’s great to have a friend to turn to in moments of doubt or better still someone who will proof read your work and give you a second opinion, but if you don’t have that luxury then the Grammarly plagiarism checker is probably the next best thing.

Getting the students to work through the plan is not hard. It's getting the teachers to produce one or getting the teachers to have the students produce on is the problem. It's much easier but way less effective to do CELTA on PowerPoint.
