10 Real-World BYOD Classrooms (And Whether It’s Worked Or Not) | Edudemic

10 Real-World BYOD Classrooms (And Whether It’s Worked Or Not) | Edudemic | ed tech.computer class.writing ctr.ICT skills | Scoop.it

With budgets tight, many schools are hoping to bring technology into the classroom without having to shell out for a device for each student. A solution for many has been to make classes BYOD (short for “bring your own device”), which allows students to bring laptops, tablets, and smartphonesfrom home and to use them in the classroom and share them with other students. It’s a promising idea, especially for schools that don’t have big tech budgets, but it has met with some criticism from those who don’t think that it’s a viable long-term or truly budget-conscious decision.

Whether that’s the case is yet to be seen, but these stories of schools that have tried out BYOD programs seem to be largely positive, allowing educators and students to embrace technology in learning regardless of the limited resources they may have at hand.

Newest Free Website Courses on Techboomers | DigitalLearn.org | ed tech.computer class.writing ctr.ICT skills | Scoop.it
Greetings all!
A few weeks ago I asked one of DigitalLearn.org's creators (Jamie) if should thought it would be useful if regularly posted about the newest courses that go up on our site. I asked ahead of time because I don't want to be seen as 'spamming' this forum. She thought it was a great idea since all of the courses are free and many libraries and other tech training organizations are already using them to teach their students. So every month, I'm going to post a list of the latest courses in this discussion thread.

Teacher: The day I knew for sure I was burned out

Teacher: The day I knew for sure I was burned out | ed tech.computer class.writing ctr.ICT skills | Scoop.it
'Teaching at a high-poverty school was different because no matter how fast or long I worked, I could not get everything done.'
Melissa Vee Rentchler 's insight:

As a teacher librarian, I empathize. I also see some teachers who have not yet grasped this. One must choose to not be a victim of these circumstances, be reduced to a hamster in a wheel trying to do it all. This is how the old ed system became great scope and little depth. Slow down. Reflect. Act on the reflections and change your focus. Do a few of the priorities with excellence. Even doing a few with excellence is extremely demanding as evidenced by past teachers Jaime Escalante, Erin Gruwell who burned out after a few short years.
