Climate: California mussel shells thinning as oceans acidify

Climate: California mussel shells thinning as oceans acidify | GarryRogers Biosphere News | Scoop.it
Biologists create historic record of climate change impacts
Staff Report
The shells of California mussels have thinned dramatically in the modern era, probably as a result of ocean acidification, a direct result of increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere resulting from fossil fuel combustion, say University of Chicago biologists who compared mussel specimens collected in the 1970s with present-day samples.

the “five horsemen of the apocalypse” – climate change, famine, state failure, migration and disease. See: http://www.financialsense.com/contributors/joseph-dancy/the-five-horsemen-of-the-apocalypse and I found the book: Why the West rules of now fascinating. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/12/books/review/Schell-t.html?pagewanted=all

Thanks for the links Peter. My oldest friend is a bible scholar and gives me lectures on the revelation now and then. Always interesting, I like the Dan Brown types of stories that arise from those old tales.

I read "Holy Blood Holy Grail" when it first came out and found it fascinating. I don't care much for people espousing the Bible and that God is ready to send Armageddon any time now! Especially when government official believe it and therefore get involved in this: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2004/03/the-armageddon-plan/302902/

Noam Chomsky: The Doomsday Clock Is Nearing Midnight

Noam Chomsky: The Doomsday Clock Is Nearing Midnight | GarryRogers Biosphere News | Scoop.it
In January 2015, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists advanced its famous Doomsday Clock to three minutes before midnight, a threat level that had not been reached for 30 years. The bulletin’s statement explaining this advance toward catastrophe invoked the two major threats to survival: nuclear weapons and “unchecked climate change.” The call condemned world leaders, who “have failed to act with the speed or on the scale required to protect citizens from potential catastrophe,” endangering “every person on Earth [by] failing to perform their most important duty—ensuring and preserving the health and vitality of human civilization.”
