I didn't know that poverty can affect that much in a person as in the article, it suggests that it can mentally, physically and emotionally affect one's thinking as one might be thinking about many things because of poverty. Example, how to overcome poverty etc. Plus, i didn't know that poverty can affect one's health. but, i wonder why and how it can actually affect one's health?

Imroatus Rahman's curator insight, February 24, 2014 9:44 AM

I can see that, of more than 40 million Americans in poverty, everyday life is a struggle — buying food, going to school, getting a job. And for a great many of them, what most people think of as simple tasks are also difficult. I feel bad for them, as they are not fortunate like us. I wonder if Government were to do something about their economic, since there is such cases of people stress to death, due to poverty. I didn't expect that psychological effect could affect people with poverty. I wonder how this effect could affect people?

With the current cutbacks on food stamps (SNAP), the high cost of living, unemployment, unequal pay for women, a lack of education the responsibility for children without a partner and caring for senior parents, this does not come as a surprise to me.
