Old Ecommerce OVER, New Ecommerce ??
I'm not sure I go all the way here. Our Curagami (@Curagami) #startup created a free white paper about Why Ecommerce Marketing Is Broken (http://www.curagami.com/e-commerce-marketing-broken-whitepaper/ ) and we see DATA as a CSF (Critical Success Factor) for SURE.

Data without connection is a wish without fulfillment. That nit aside the IDEA of a more OBJECTIVE and FAST ecommerce future we agree with 100%.

BTW, Team Curagami believes we need new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) too :).

How Colors Affect Conversion Rate [infographic]

How Colors Affect Conversion Rate [infographic] | Ecom Revolution | Scoop.it

...Did you know that color accounts for 85% of the reason why you purchased a specific product? Or that full-colored ads in magazines are recognized 26% more than black and white ads?

The psychological elements go even deeper when you look at the specific meanings of colors. For example, if you use the color blue on your products, it will give your customers a calming effect…while black, on the other hand, gives your customers a sense of exclusivity.

So, the real question that comes to mind is: how should you use color within your marketing?...

Via Jeff Domansky, luigi vico

Love honing in on conversion and color. We tested button colors often and it was conextually variable (so not easy). Helpful infographic.

Stephen Van Delinder's curator insight, July 31, 2013 10:50 AM

90% of customers go to a company's website before calling or emailing that company. That's where we are. If you are under the impression that businesses operate between the hours of 9 and 5, you are finished.

On the other hand, out performing your competition or creating and dominating a niche with this many changes taking place is simpler than it has ever been. It takes a lot of work to not let things fall through the cracks, but the opportunities are overwhelming.

The challenge here as I see it is really the first point. Whether you love it, hate it, or are indifferent, you and everything you know about is now metaphysical. According to the above, your business should be using a website, an app, and social media; support should be available in real time and you should be accessible on every channel because you need to wow people.

There are more and more ways that people can experience you, your company, and your brand. The challenge then is creating a web presence, app, and support system that are SoLoMo, consistent, and “wow” inducing.

As Goes Digital Europe, So Goes The World: 5 Trends in European Digital Consumption [Infographic] | Ecom Revolution | Scoop.it

A McKinsey iConsumer survey spotlights key trends in e-commerce, mobile, multichannel, social media, and big data. From McKinsey via Visual.ly. Tons of excellent infographics in one place.

Europe is higher up on the evolutionary Ecom ladder than USA. Perhaps due to high gasoline prices or not having as dispersed or developed a brick and mortar environment (would be hard to duplicate Walmart's distribution prowess when so many countries are involved) England's retail is already at 15% several points ahead of America.

This infographic is instructive about the future of the world, ecommerce, mobile commerce and social media.

Email Makes The Money
When I was a Director of Ecommerce email marketing produced the highest MARGIN (i.e. dollars to the bank) of any marketing channel by far. Email is under attack these days.

Email marketing is different and changing. Different because relevance is demanded so personas and segments are a must. Different because mobile devices increasingly curate email so your emails must look great on mobile AND be formed "mobile friendly".

Mobile friendly means:

* Strong visuals.
* Few words and less copy.
* Tease the click or tease the "keep for later".
* Strong offers and clear CTAs.

If you run an ecommerce website and are NOT email marketing and making subscriptions into your list your A priority I'd love to know what is :).M

Reviews Are Critical User Generated Content: Review of Reviews [Infographic + Marty Tips]

Reviews Are Critical User Generated Content: Review of Reviews [Infographic + Marty Tips] | Ecom Revolution | Scoop.it
It’s not even just e-commerce sites that allow reviews either. Local Directory sites allow customers to review businesses, whether the business encourages them or not.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Ecom & Reviews Birds of a Feather
You can't run a successful ecommerce website without reviews. I would go further and say you can run a successful #Ecom website without User Generated Content (UGC). Excellent infographic explains why.

5 Tips For How To GET Reviews & UGC

* Gamify - provide social capital as reinforcement.

* Glorify - Reviewer of the month and other accolades.

* Review Reviewers - ask community to rate reviewers, brand the best of them.

* Contests - make becoming a reviewer a hard won prize like Amazon.

* Give 'em a Job - once you find the 1% willing to contribute gives them a "job" and that will help recruit others in kind.

BTW, I don't agree that a negative review means your company is dead. I posted on how to turn negative reviews around not long ago:

Mobile Commerce Is Ecommerce - $31B By 2015 USA [Infographic]

Mobile Commerce Is Ecommerce - $31B By 2015 USA [Infographic] | Ecom Revolution | Scoop.it
Detailed Infographic covering the latest M-commerce statistics and Trends.

Marty Note
Sitting with some smart Internet marketing friends at Raleigh's Internet Summit I learned that the $100M website they manage now has 16% of sales coming from mobile phones and tablets. Wow, that is math even I can do without Excel. $16M in "Mobile Commerce" means the mobile tsunami is HERE. This infographic predicting $31B in US sales by 2015 and other helpful tidbits just underscore that e-commerce is now m-commerce.

Other thing I keep reminding myself is MOBILE is way more than the phone. Mobile is about design, data structure and how you tell a story in a much smaller device. The other trend we are seeing that is critical is the phone is mobile devices are curating people's lives. If you don't look good and tell a attention-grabbing story in mobile you never earn the right to play on my laptop or desktop. Mobile is the gatekeeper, so EVEN if your mobile traffic stats stay low the influence of mobile devices is being felt.

How Social Search and Social Shopping Are Transforming Retail [Infographic]

How Social Search and Social Shopping Are Transforming Retail [Infographic] | Ecom Revolution | Scoop.it

This Infographic by Symphony Teleca shows that consumers rely on peer recommendations: Links to user-generated content on social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Pinterest) make up a quarter of the search results for the top 20 brands in the world.

In response to that growing number, 85 % of people have already anticipated changes in their buying behavior.

Customer reviews, questions and answers, internet forums and user-generated videos are the social and community tools that influence consumers the most.

This Infographic also shows how mobile devices, real-time access to review sites and social networks impact consumers’ buying decisions and overall retail experience.

167 million people will shop online this year, spending an average of $1,800 per person, it reveals.

Unsurprisingly, shoppers are using their smartphones to look for sales and special deals, as well as read product reviews and ratings.

64% of smartphone owners shop online using their devices;

40% of Twitter users say they search for products on the microblogging tool; and

60% of Facebook users say they would discuss a product or service if they were offered a discount

It also breaks down how companies such as Walmart and Starbucks are using social networks to engage shoppers. It also looks at how businesses are using mobile point of sale (POS) transactions to get insight into consumer data, sales records and inventory.

Inbound Marketing's Yin & Yang [Infographic]

Inbound Marketing's Yin & Yang [Infographic] | Ecom Revolution | Scoop.it
A key concept in Taoist philosophy, “Yin and Yang” (“shadow and light”) describes forces that are opposites, yet complementary. Social media and search can be described as the Yin and Yang of inbound marketing.

They are opposites:
* social media is powered by people's conversations.
* search engines are powered by machine algorithms.

They are also complementary.

When content links are shared on social media, search engines leverage those social signals to determine search rankings. When search engines drive traffic to content visitors may share that content with their social networks expanding the content's social reach.

Here’s an infographic to illustrate how social media and search are part of the same soul.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Opposite yet complimentary should be a familiar concept to Internet marketers. We must hold opposites but complimentary values such as:

* Increase conversion while decreasing traffic.

* Increase sales while decreasing acquisition costs.

* Create LESS content that does MORE.

* Increase relevance while decreasing your team's work.

This last bullet speaks to the contrasting world of ecommerce. How do you increase relevance even as you reduce your team’s input (and so costs)? User Generated Content (UGC) is always the answer to that question (lol).

Great graphic here on the natural contrasting compliments in content marketing.
