How Important Is Being Eco-Friendly to You?

How Important Is Being Eco-Friendly to You? | Eco-green hotel | Scoop.it

11 year old George Hanson has a nice Eco Kid essay, and the title asks a question.

"When we turn off lights when there is no need to use it, we are saving energy. That is how we should be thinking.  We have no need to allow electricity to be burning because it will only create an additional expense for our families.  Secondly, water is life. It is a valuable resource.  If there is no water; then, there is no life.  We have no need to waste water we need to use it wisely.  While you are brushing your teeth turn off the water until you are ready to rinse your mouth and so forth."

Eco-Friendly Policies Gain Momentum in the Hospitality Industry | Eco-green hotel | Scoop.it

The Hospitality Industry is starting to embrace a more eco-friendly prospective in managing their hotels, cruise ships and transportation. Most of these sectors actually have eco-friendly policies in place, but the real challenge is conveying it to their guests.

Being able to hype up your hotels eco-friendly policy is falling to TripAdvisor. Their research reveals that travelers are extremely interested in making eco-friendly travel choices, with 71% planning to do so within the next three months. Yet despite 81% of U.S. hoteliers indicating that they currently have green practices in place, nearly a quarter of these respondents do not communicate their green efforts to guests. To solve this problem, the TripAdvisor GreenLeaders program is being established to create a dedicated section on their website to appeal to consciousness guests.

Created in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program, the United Nations Environment Program and the U.S. Green Building Council, the program will recognize eco-friendly properties and help travelers plan greener trips. Large hospitality companies including Best Western, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Select Registry, as well as independent hotels, are participating in the program. TripAdvisor is currently opening the application process to any hotels in Canada and the US, who want to participate ...
