Philips' New 40W LED Bulb Designed to Sway Stubborn Fans of Incandescents | Sustainable Brands

Philips' New 40W LED Bulb Designed to Sway Stubborn Fans of Incandescents | Sustainable Brands | Eco-Friendly | Scoop.it
Traditional incandescent bulbs continue to be phased out, but many continue to argue that they prefer their light to that of LEDs. E50 Morgan Solar - A Canadian #solar startup with a bright future #energy #sustainability | Eco-Friendly | Scoop.it
We don't often cover pre-commercial startups on Green Energy Futures but the Morgan Solar story is one we just had to share. Based in Toronto, it's developing a concentrated solar PV module that, by next year, should be twice as cheap as typical silicon PV module and twice as efficient. They do it by using common plastics to focus light onto a tiny, super-efficient solar cell, like the ones used to power satellites. Michael Potter, CEO, Eden Foods: GMO’s and Organic #Sustainability

Michael Potter, CEO, Eden Foods: GMO’s and Organic #Sustainability | Eco-Friendly | Scoop.it
Sustainability is often a word that is used by clever marketers to promote an agenda to address the propaganda that the overpopulated world is running out of food due. With conventional crops devastating the environment, it appears that all we are doing is mining the land instead of farming it sustainably. In essence, in order to be truly sustainable, agriculture must be perpetuated so it can be productive year after year and generation after generation. The privately stated policy from the agro-chemical companies is market domination through contamination, meanwhile it is translated for the public as peaceful co-existence, when in fact there is no peaceful co-existence. Is it possible for the organic producers to survive?

Eden Foods, Inc., (also known as Eden Organic), is the oldest family owned organic food producer in the United States and the largest supplier of organic dry grocery items. Michael Potter, CEO of Eden Foods will talk about organic sustainability and the impact of GMO’s on our food and the broader environment.

Emy Baker's Original's insight:

Sometimes subtle pressure is all that is needed as a guarantee that a food source is indeed GMO-free.  While this is music to the ears of cereal consumers, what about the widely popular off-brands?

The Dutch town of Wageningen starts a pilot with heated bike paths. Energy comes from heat/cold exchange technology and solar energy, making it 'climate neutral'. There won't be a need for salt anymore; the concrete paving is 100% recyclable and the surface will be covered with a 'glow in the dark paint', storing light during the day to make the path visible at night. How's that for a self sustaining bike path?
