Etymologically, technology is about having a conversation with and through a craftperson's tools. It is a way of being at home and knowing one's tools and one's relationship with those tools.

Using artificial intelligence in the classroom

Jeff Z 2G 39's curator insight, March 19, 2016 2:56 AM

I agree with the author in that artificial intelligence is not supposed to replace human teachers, but rather enhance the learning experience.

However in the future human teachers may become obsolete as technology advances and it becomes cheaper and more effective to use artificial intelligence. However, by implementing artificial intelligence into the classroom, students may not be able to build basic values such as discipline and respect as they only interact with an artificial intelligence.

In the end, using artificial intelligence in the classroom can improve the learning experience as there is a lower risk of human error, and using it in the classroom can only enhance the learning experience of students.

Top 5 eLearning Trends Happening Now

Top 5 eLearning Trends Happening Now | eLearning at eCampus ULg | Scoop.it
I recently attended the Training 2016 Conference and Expo as an exhibitor. I was able to talk with many training and development representatives from a wide variety of organizations about their LMS needs. During these discussions I asked, “what aspects or features are you looking for in an LMS? What excites you?” Rather than offer a list of features the industry thinks are trending, these are the features that people told me are important to them. These top 5 features are gaining popularity in 2016 and beyond. Are they on your must-have list?

10 Roles For Artificial Intelligence In Education

10 Roles For Artificial Intelligence In Education | eLearning at eCampus ULg | Scoop.it

"For decades, science fiction authors, futurists, and movie makers alike have been predicting the amazing (and sometimes catastrophic) changes that will arise with the advent of widespread artificial intelligence. So far, AI hasn’t made any such crazy waves, and in many ways has quietly become ubiquitous in numerous aspects of our daily lives. From the intelligent sensors that help us take perfect pictures, to the automatic parking features in cars, to the sometimes frustrating personal assistants in smartphones, artificial intelligence of one kind of another is all around us, all the time."

6 Ways to Bridge the Gap Between Faculty and IT

6 Ways to Bridge the Gap Between Faculty and IT | eLearning at eCampus ULg | Scoop.it

"The relationship between academia and technology is notoriously complicated. Knowing the Difference Between Digital Skills and Digital Literacies, and Teaching Both

Knowing the Difference Between Digital Skills and Digital Literacies, and Teaching Both | eLearning at eCampus ULg | Scoop.it

Maha Bali writes: "We often hear people talk about the importance of digital knowledge for 21st-century learners. Unfortunately, many focus on skills rather than literacies. Digital skills focus on what and how. Digital literacy focuses on why, when, who, and for whom."

Via Mary Reilley Clark, Arthur Correia
elearning at eCampus ULg's insight:

Maha Bali's article is worth sharing widely with anyone who needs to be nudged ever so gently into the 21st century of education. (We're 16% through it, folks!) Bali addresses the need to teach about digital skills and literacy in an authentic context, not a vacuum, and gives many concrete examples for doing that.

I recently did a lesson on blogging with a 6th grade class. We looked at several tween and teen blogs, then reviewed good digital citizenship practices emphasizing student safety and copyright. Finally, each student created a blog on Blogger. Will they make mistakes? Probably. (When I specifically told them to keep it school appropriate, with nothing in the blog they wouldn't be allowed to do at school, and one student immediately started searching for "Call of Duty 3" images!) Will we all learn something from this? Absolutely.
